Edge Containing Improvement

It's been inconsistent all season.

How do we improve it?
More schemes with Harris and Wilson on opposite sides.

More Hustedt

Widen the DEs and or LBs

Commit no less than 8 defenders within 10 yards of the LOS. Force the Cats to beat us deep consistently

More schemes with only 4 LBs.
Personally, I'd like to see a 4 man DL on 1st down defense and short yardage downs.

The edge contain has been horrible all season long.

4 man DL?
What have you been drinking?

Containing the edge is a problem that needs to be solved before next week and the playoffs. It's a major weakness of our defense.

Can you explain it then? Becuase they did the same thing repeatedly, and got burned, repeatedly.
Almost everything that poster said is wrong. Yes, the Griz let runners get outside of them at times, until later in the game. But it wasn't just for those reasons. And it was runners, not the qb. A number of times, the back was stopped inside but not yet tackled, and bounced outside. But that didn't happen mainly because of the reasons stated. Later in the game, UM didn't let that occur, either at all or much.

Thank you for the explanation. I stand by my over pursuit comment. Cheers!

That may well be, but I stand by what I said.
I know they're cousins and all, but Tirrell plays wildly different than Robbie. Honestly, Ryan seems to be cleaning up a lot of plays. Could be wrong, though. Of course I've never played the game (at this level, anyway.)

It seems like a problem of being aggressive on defense, but not staying disciplined. This year, more than any, it has shown up a lot. I actually thought they adjusted pretty well in the second half of the PSU game.

Its gonna be a game of angles. If the Griz play the angles right then we might have a chance of some containment. We know Tommy is gonna do Tommy things and he is one of three threats we really have to worry about. Looking at game stats Tommy isn't rushing nearly as much as he used to which I think is actually smart. But he isn't a pocket passer looking for the deep shot either. Spy whoever is in at RB and dial up as much QB pressure as we can. We saw last year how bad the cats passing game was when the Griz put pressure on the QB. Edge containment is my biggest fear. I think the Griz need to play more interior between the numbers because I don't see the cats taking many deep shots. That is not their MO.
