Bummer for the Griz, but they had plenty of company as seven ranked teams lost yesterday. At least they lost to a higher-ranked opponent … several others had bad losses to unranked teams.

Before we deal with how far the Griz will drop, we run into a shocking loss by Southeast Missouri State. The Redhawks went on the road and lost to Lindenwood (5-6), for crying’ out loud. Don’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of Lindenwood. They played their first (provisional) games at the D-I/FCS level in 2022. Even with this upset, the Lions are unlikely to end the season with a winning record. I’ve dropped SEMO a “normal” seven spots, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the pollsters hammered them even more.
So now, UM. The Griz lost to a highly-ranked team that has received a few first-place votes over weeks past. The Griz likely drop out of the Top-10, but I doubt much further than my guess.
The pollsters have been pretty lenient with teams that lose to transitioning Delaware. I’ve nudged the Rhodies down three, but less than that would not surprise me.
On the other hand, we have Central Arkansas, which lost its second game in a row to a weak, unranked opponent. Down they go, by the usual seven spots (and could be more).
William & Mary also lost to an unranked opponent, although Elon at least has a winning record. I think the Tribe will (barely) hang on in the Top-25 … although that (6-4) record is unimpressive.
The pollsters will surely now drop North Dakota and Western Carolina – now each with five losses – out of the Top-25. One replacement is East Tennessee State, which handed the Catamounts their fifth loss. The other replacement, Jackson State, was just out of the Top-25 in the last poll.
