Davis is very good, they played very well, and they thumped us (especially later in the game)

Okay, I thought Davis had clearly gotten the first down. Here's the play by play. It was 4th and 2 and the runner got 2 yards, so couldn't have been 2 yards short. Thx.

4th and 2 at UM 41No Huddle-Shotgun Larison,Lan rush middle for 2 yards gain to the UM 39 (Lee,Jaxon) PENALTY UM Illegal Substitution 5 yards from UM 41 to UM 36, 1ST DOWN. NO PLAY.
I believe they did get the first without the penalty

Defense was OK. Not great, not terrible but held up OK against a top offense in the country.
Offense was pathetic. Watching Gillman and Fife body language - hope we can keep them.
Couple of breaks and it's a closer game, don't think we win, but it's closer.
Davis is a better team. Look bigger, stronger, faster, and more disciplined.
P.S. is a must win to make the playoffs. The scats will beat the team that played Davis last night by 30. Anything can happen in brawl but I wouldn't put one dollar on it. Beat P.S. and go from there.
Love our Montana Grizzlies but we have some serious issues.
I'll be there next Saturday doing my part.

Go Griz.
my opinion as well, I will say, the D was a c+ at best. teams that are well-coached usually take advantage of an over aggressive approach. so was the case last night. 2 tds were misdirection plays that caught the
griz over stepping.

As I said, the D was way better than C+. Held Davis to fewer first downs and way less yardage than the last 4 opponents, as well as some earlier in the season. UM lost its man a few times in man coverage and gave up a few 3d and longs. UM's defender got picked off in a mesh crossing route. That happens sometimes. The D was put in holes several times and mostly survived that. D should have held on to several possible picks.

I get what you are saying, we just saw how the game was played in not the same way. yes,
the stats are comparatively good, however, you don't get the natty by stats alone. so if that is the case, it is ok to talk about why we did not get the win, there lies our difference.

Giving up a long screen to the Griz sideline, on about 2d and 20 in the 3d Q, was unfortunate. After Wilson's nice sack. Another missed opportunity. Davis made the play; Griz didn't.

Hauck mentioned after the game that one of the reasons the o-line and O didn't look good at times, was the stellar play of the Davis D. The Davis coached mentioned the good game by his D.

I'm talking about the D and the game, not getting to Frisco. Frisco is a long way off, if at all. Getting to Frisco would take an incredible effort, much better play, and some luck.

FYI, I don’t believe the statisticians consider it a sack when it’s a double pass or handoff to a pass like that. Just a TFL. Can’t say I understand it, but pretty sure that’s the way they do that.

i hear you on the natty, even though wins are what will take us there. also appreciate your take on effort, play and luck. thank you.

This interview with the Davis coach is very good and instructive.

He said they picked up the 4th and 2 without the penalty. Said they had lots of extra one word calls to make or change plays. Said the coaches told the players that there would be false start penalties. Knows that the crowd doesn't come back at the start of the 3d Q. Singled out the importance of the FG kicker and punter (to keep ball from no. 5). Said the D played tremendous. Said they were able to pressure the QB with with 4, which they hadn't done all season. Says he had complete faith the QB, ore than any ever. Said the QB made/changed one call slightly and it worked out great. He said the hotel was banging on doors trying to get team out of their rooms. The coach seems like a great guy. Very impressed with him and what he said.

It wasn't a double pass or handoff, it was a roll out by the QB, is my recollection. Wilson didn't get fooled. I think the Davis coached referred to the sack in his interview.

Getting pressure for first time all season with 4 is a sign, as is the lack of running game. I say that loss is not on defense this time.
