Bergen sure looked 100% on that punt return
I felt the penalty on Rostad was warranted. However, the two tripping calls were absolutely unwarranted. In my opinion the players were rolling over to get up. I also thought the personal fouls on Klucewich and Barnum were ticky tak and not justifiable after all football is a contact sport and there was not much contact in either of those calls.

How about that PI on Loud?
There was one on the Grizzlies near out sideline that I thought should have been called as it was obviously pass interference in my opinion but no call was made. I think it was in the 3rd quarter but I am not sure about that either. I didn't remember who was the defender and if it was Loud it should have been called. I didn't mention it because I didn't remember who it should have been on.

No, the one on loud was called. From the tv, he just stepped in front of the WR and shoulda caught it but that’s why he plays D I guess. Hauck was pretty disappointed with the call. I’m sure he’s disappointed in most calls but this looked like a really bad call on tv. Greg Sundberg is pretty honest about most calls and he had no words for how bad a call was.
There was another BS call where the CP guy didn't fumble, but they called it one. Marty M. was shocked and said terrible call.

So I was wondering about that. Is the elbow considered down if it’s the first thing to touch? His elbow touched, then the ball come out. The ball was in the other arm, not the one that touched the ground. The ball was definitely out before the rest of his body hit the ground. I was surprised it wasn’t overturned. That’s why I questioned the elbow counting as a player down. I know they can plant a hand and not be down, not sure on the elbow.

You’re right, I just googled this:
“Yes, an elbow touching the ground is considered a down in football. A player is considered down when any part of their body other than their hands or feet touches the ground, including their elbow or knee.“

What would the penalty be?
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but not sure that’s how it works. Pretty sure it’s either targeting and ejection or they pick up the flag. Can’t be just a penalty. Kinda like how someone is either pregnant or not

The ball was starting to come loose before he was down.
The call on Rostad was a bad call. The QB had started to run and isn't considered defenseless.
The refs, or a few of them, were terrible.

The refs were horrible! I've never watched a game where there were 2 tripping plays called. Never!

Honest question: Do refs watch film of the teams beforehand?
Some on here have convinced themselves AY got reps in these "easy" games to build QB depth.
They are foolish.
But, yes - Seems like that was the window to heal some guys.

Everyone on e-griz tries to make this a BSC issue, and it is not. Officiating across the college landscape has gotten worse. I know a number of college officials at the FBS level, and a lot of the good ones are retiring early because they are sick of the political BS with game assignments. I won't get into a social, demographic nonsense on this board, but it's become terrible.
