STATS FCS Poll, Oct 28 (Griz #8)

The pollsters did pretty much what I expected at the top. They dropped South Dakota to just below UC Davis and they hammered North Dakota out of the Top-10, allowing the Griz and others to move up.

Here's a bit that I just noticed: In my poll guesses, I said the pollsters might reward Stony Brook for the upset of William & Mary ... and they did. In fact, they put them in three spots higher than my guess.

I think both Montana schools beat UCD. Davis is paper tiger. But the Cats roll in Bozeman in the Brawl again. There is a chance of a 2-7 rematch back in Bozeman if that's the way it plays out.

Under this scenario there will be a 3-way tie for 2nd in the conference with gris, Idaho, and UCD all finishing 9-3 (6-2), and I think the committee will pick one additional BSC team for a top 8 seed. I think they give it to the gris from the head to head win over Davis and the fact that Davis beat Idaho. With some chaos in the MV including MO St playing the roll of spoiler, and some other potential ill-timed losses from teams like UIW, SEMO, and Tarleton, UCA, gris could rise as high as a 4/5 at 9-3. That would probably avoid another trip to Bozeman, but earn a trip to Fargo. Not good either way.

Just one man's opinion. Lots of football still to be played.

The hope is that Montana will be able to beat UC Davis (especially since it's in Missoula, under the lights, crazy-ass atmosphere). I do think though that it might be a little more of a difficult game for the Cats, especially if Davis loses to Montana. Right after the Griz play Davis, the Cats have to travel to Davis. If the Aggies lose to Montana, I can see them a little fired up and wanting to prevent another loss, and will be looking to prove themselves against a top 5 team on their turf. However, I think MSU has the edge and is a better team, but I can see a scenario where the Cats might find themselves in a tighter game.

I don’t think the gris get the 7. If they beat UCD that should get them up above 7. If they lose to UCD and us they barely get a seed.

The more important question is: when the Griz beat the Cats, what seed will the Griz get?

2 loss team to UND and Weber is not getting a 2 seed.
well not an easy task but possible..say ndsu gets beat and the scats are number 1 and we beat ucd and the scats...our resume is going be in the running especially when you take out the stats people from the committee.

You're right that there exists, theoretically, a world where a 2-loss Griz team gets the 2-seed, but we would need an unfathomable amount of luck and upsets in the final 4 weeks for that to even be a possibility, even if we steamrolled our next 4 games 70-0.
