The GRIZ Have a Long Way to Go

Did you watch the NDSU/SDSU game? Either of them would beat the Griz by 30+ points. They are better than us in every facet of the game, including offense. We don't have a QB who comes close to Miller or Gronowski.

Call me negative all you want - I'm just being a realist. The Griz simply don't have what it takes this year, period. Keep dreaming if it makes you happy.
Hope springs eternal. That’s the beauty of sport. If I was as negative as most people on here, I’d quit watching the Griz and just give up hope. There are so many other negative things in life to focus on. Every Saturday brings the hope of a great game and a victory. Sometimes that don’t happen and that’s life. Guess what, next week or maybe next year will bring another opportunity to celebrate something enjoyable. If you’re not enjoying, then quit watching and quit bringing more negativity into your life. This isn’t meant directly at you but everyone who just constantly bitches about the state of Grizzly athletics. There’s so much pain in the world already and why would you want to add more over a game.

I don't understand why some feel the need to tell others how to be a fan of their team.

Do it your way - mom is free to do it her way.

Generally, college football fans are friggin fanatical and this phenomenon adds to the fabric of the sport.

She'll keep cheering and watching the Griz...just like you.

I guess I just have a more positive outlook on things I’m hopeful for. Seems to me it would be more enjoyable to not hate on the team and expect them to lose, despite stil cheering for them. That seems a bit manic-depressive to me. I know for myself, if I felt as down on the team as many on here do, I’d probably quit watching. That’s just me though. You’re right, y’all have the right to not enjoy watching your team play. Carry on.

Gronowski looked average last night. 17-27 for 118. He very seldom tried to stretch the field. Miller looked good even with his ankle maybe 75%.

The schedules we’ve played aren’t even comparable.

Missouri State: is 5-2 in the MVFC (3-0 in conference) and their ONLY other loss is FBS.
North Dakota: is 5-2 in the MFVC (2-1 in conference) with their only loss to likely #1 NDSU and we led them 24-7 at the half then inexplicably shit the bed.
WCU: is 4-3 and undefeated since losing to UM. They’re 3-0 and in first place in the Southern Conference, and their QB just put up 620 passing yards—in ONE game—against Wofford.
Morehead St: is 4-3 and 2-1 in the Pioneer.
Eastern: may be 2-5, but they followed up our game by putting 35 on Sac (W) and 38 on Davis (L)
Weber….ok, they suck at 3-5 and losers to UNC. Were they our “NAU” game this year?
NAU: 4-4 and 2-2 in conference - they’re no slouch again this year.

So our combined opponent record is 28-24. MSU’s opponents’ combined record is 19-40.

We lamented our performance against some of these teams early, but it turns out our OOC was a LOT tougher than we gave them credit for, and it wasn’t just them playing their Super Bowl against the Griz. THey’re actually pretty good teams this year. We know EWU is ALWAYS a shootout (hell, we hadn’t wont there in 14 years) and the D came back and played lights out against NAU.

So, I ask again: Was Weber our “NAU” game this year? We’re gonna beat UNC and CP and come out of week 9 7-2 and then we finish with Davis at home, PSU at home and then at the ‘Scats. 9-3, a seed and multiple home games is not out of the realm of possibility.

You know people can root for/cheer on/pay for season tickets/pay for trips to Frisco /donate to GSA/enjoy watching them play……..and still point out flaws/be realistic/get pissed at coaching. Those things are not mutually exclusive or a sign of manic depression. For some people it is sign of how much they actually love a team to keep supporting/cheering on/attending games/ wearing maroon on Saturdays despite using a brain (some having more knowledge of the game than others) knowing they just aren’t as good as some teams. If the Scat game was in Missoula would I show to my season ticket seats even thinking it’s probably a loss coming and still cheer my ass off…,,yes. Will I attend in Bozo, only when hell freezes over I will go into that stadium again. Carry on

Not taking away from what happened at the game, but I have a simple question. Does the fact that NDSU and SDSU are similar in play and very familiar with each other, make that game more impressive than it was?

The only pain people have in their lives is seeing your stupid posts.

Remember when Bobby Hauck came back in 2017 and the media and everyone said the Big Sky is WAY better than it was in 2003-2009? Bobby said it is not better at all, only difference is Montana isn’t dominating everyone anymore so people think it’s “deeper and better.” Its not. He was right. Quality of player and teams is actually worse now. He would agree
I think pre-transfer portal he's wrong. This year with, for example, most of Idaho's good kids transferring out, it is kind of down. I mean what did you bring in on the transfer portal? 14 kids? 18? And that's without you really losing any to the transfer portal, other than your qb. And it sounds like Fife is probably better? I mean offense is more prolific. But then if it's a down year in the Big Sky, is he better or just playing against worse defenses, by your logic? Thoughts?

100% the dakota schools build their programs around playing each other...

While watching easily the 2 best teams you’ll ever see in the FCS. Not putting the scats at their level. The dakotas should be insulted to have people say the scats are in their league.
I honestly didn't think either Offense looked that good in The Dakota State game.... Came away feeling like MSU and UM would be close games against either one of them.

I disagree. Our offense is easily better than either of them. I don’t think our qb is that bad. As he continues to learn the system; Fife has looked very good.

I also disagree with most about our defense. Truth is we have played some very good teams with very good skill players. Our defense has mostly had bad quarters not bad games. And in many cases big plays have hurt. Last game we saw significant improvement.

Bobby’s team tend to get stronger as the season goes on. I would not be surprised if we win out. And win at least one playoff game.

This thread reminds me of a game thread.

Dear Positive Karen,

There are zero Griz fans who don't enjoy watching the team play. You are missing the point entirely.
