Why an we not recruit a higher level athletes ? Certainly we are losing some because we are FCS but what about North and South Dakota? They are close to Minnesota but there is a lot of teams recruiting in the Midwest and they seem to find the good ones.

this is a great point that I don’t think the coaches have considered. I’d recommend calling and scheduling a face to face meeting to let them know. This could be groundbreaking for the program.

I love it when one dumb bubcatz troll trolls another bubcatz troll who is too dumb to realize it. Comedy super gold

Last year they offered more players than I can ever remember. Many going FBS. They just can't win the recruiting battles (inset your hypothesis as to why here). Losing most highly sought after in state recruits to MSU is another issue ((4 out of 5 top rated going to MSU the other has not verballed anywhere) can't blame engineering on all of those like some will try. One thing someone told me at a tailgate was they have heard from some lost recruits is that they see MSU staff as being made up of more "players coach" types instead of grumpy old men. I do see a lot more fire and excitement on sidelines in MSU games vs UM and have heard multiple former players have commented on the no fire UM sideline this year. So if it is more fun to play at a school that is still having a lot of success, and in the ballpark facilities/sellouts with a more players going to pros now to boot compared to Bobby 1.0 ,,,,,,,,,,so when an 18 year old sees that side it is hard to win them over based on dominance back when they were in diapers. Bobby had luxury of recruiting back in 1.0 by just spouting playoff games and Cat wins. Bobby 1.0 owned the state, now has a tough time making rent.

Seems lately it has been a method or going to portal /transfer mode more than it used to in order to get players and they lost out on many "recruiting" battles there as well so they sure didn't get a lot of ones they hoped to grab which means offering guys lower on the rating board. Currently there are 26 seniors (19 of which are on latest 2 deep so this team is not "young") Assuming a few underclassmen will also leave which is going to be true every year, some always quit/retire/transfer etc) they will need 30 new guys, Current have 11 HS verbal guys so lots of recruiting still to go and probably a chunk of portal guys as well will need signed. Fingers crossed

A) this year is an anomaly in-state. Most of the recruits going the ‘Scats way are either the coaches’ son or are legacy players.
B) the “coaches have no fire” argument is pure BS. Stand on the sidelines in that stadium during a game and tell me there’s no fire. Bobby 2.0 has almost the exact same demeanor as 1.0. Did you not see the sunglasses bit to the referee a couple games ago?

Obviously the Vigen kid is the coaches kid, but who are the legacies?

We use to be such a power house of a program with several players getting drafted a year. A lot of the quality teams left the FCS so in theory we should be at very the top every year competing. We have good coaches overall. Quality facilities. A great playing environment. So is there lack of people wanting to play football? Lack of younger population? Cold weather ? It would be interesting to hear from players who have been recruited and turned down offers and why they did so. If the reasons for turning down offers are consistent then that would seem to be where change should be made to improve the program.

I have been at every home game and have eyes, were you there? And apparently some former players are clueless then.....by the way I believe GFP also said they heard it from former players. So who are these legacy players you claim?

Bobby's old-school hard-ass coaching approach is a dying breed that does not generally resonate with this generation's players. For this reason (among others), a natty under this staff is a pipe dream imo.

We've seen on a near weekly basis that we simply can't out talent almost anyone, in spite of FCS being more watered down than ever. The era of the Griz as a dominant force in FCS is a distant memory at this point.

We’ve just barely got into the graphics for recruits the past couple of years and we were way behind others to that point. Also another aspect that I’ve noticed we’ve fallen behind on is the pictures and photo shoots for the recruits, we have a simple backdrop for the guys and seems like the same poses, where as the likes of the neighbors who do photo shoots with the stadium, the recruits families, and even the other recruits visiting I noticed last week there was 4 highly rated kids from Texas who visited msu and I’ve seen it all over my X timeline with those kids with the families, and I’ve yet to see a photo shoot with a kid from UM last weekend during our Homecoming at that, need to do better and make the kids want to be here and that starts with impressing their families, there is a reason we’ve had such lowly rated recruiting classes the past few years and the defense it’s just starting to show.

Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been happening.

The argument that other good FCS schools have moved up making less competition is laughable. Do you think those schools just disappeared? In 2009 there were 120 FBS schools that were allowed to offer 85 scholarships. That’s 10,200 FBS scholarship athletes at the end of our prime. Today there is 134 FBS teams and next recruiting season they will be allowed to offer 105 schollies. That’s 14,070 FBS offers and more importantly, almost 4,000 kids that would have played FCS football 15 years ago but now will be FBS athletes. Also consider that only 2 schools have won most of the FCS nattys since then and pretty much have their say of what FCS athletes they want. Does that answer your question why we might not be getting the same caliber athletes here at lowly FCS Montana?

Thank you for your detailed answer. I can't remember all but Marshall, Appalachian State, Boise State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Sam Houston State, Western Kentucky seemed to be pretty good teams to me as I can recall. There are more that I am missing that were pretty good also I think.
So what you are saying is Montana is lacking quality recruits because of the FBS which I agree and that the Dakotas take all the good ones in the FCS so we are have to get damm lucky to find any quality players.

The coaching staff wants "we" guys.
If all you care about is what kind of picture the program offers you might not be our guy.
Do some bsc programs offer the opportunity to use the team as a stepping stone to the FBS?
Idaho comes to mind and...?
I think the Griz coaches don't want players who have any intentions of leaving.
I also think some of each of these is a reason we see less Griz players in the NFL.
More we and less me.

Interesting that he's seeing what's happening at MSU! I've heard lots from current MSU player parents about the differences in recruiting. It's happening.
I’ve heard from many more parents that the recruiting at MSU is awful. If you’ve heard from 50, I’ve heard from 51+. Just what I’ve heard. That’s how we do this, right?
