FINAL DRIVE of Weber game

No, sorry, you are wrong. It was their choice.
UM did win the toss and did choose D.
What I am saying is they should have instead chosen the NEZ and let the weebs chose O or D.
The winner of the coin toss gets 3 choices: O, D, or end of field
Ah, I understand what you were explaining now. Yes, that would make more sense.

No, I'm saying I think we could have played out a better scenario and still gotten the touchdown. That pass into the end zone to White for the touchdown ideally should have been a, "get as close to the one yard line as possible and go down to bleed clock. From there, you have 1st and goal and at least 4 attempts to get it in, and still two time outs remaining. QB Sneak, hand it off to Gillman/Ostmo, etc.

What if that play is incomplete or stuffed? Now you're 3rd and 7 from the 13 and you MUST make a play. I get it; in a perfect world we'd have been in a first and goal situation at the one and allowed to bleed some clock. But in a perfect world I'd have had Brad Pitt's looks and money.

Yep. I can recall at least 4 OTs in the NEZ which The Griz one, including 2 last year, and I believe two now that we lost in the SEZ. Usually we don’t win the toss and get the NEZ by default.
Plus, if we choose NEZ, the opponent will likely choose D, and if we make it to double OT, pretty sure we flip ends again and we are right back to where we started, like last game, using conventional wisdom, on D first, and at the SEZ

I just think the odds were better to attempt that scenario than trusting the defense to keep Weber State from driving down the field. I'm not particularly upset with the decision to score when we did, it is what it is. I just would have liked us to take that risk and think we could have pulled it off.

Weber scored two TDs in the 4th quarter. TOP for those possessions was 1:14 and 0:45. If the Griz D could have just slowed them down a bit, Weber might have had to burn some time outs during the last Griz drive. The failed 2 point conversion by the Griz in the middle of the 3rd quarter led to the Griz needing a TD on the last drive instead of a FG. They could have burned more clock knowing that a made FG (no guarantee) ties the game and a TD with little time left probably wins it. Of course, the tying FG still leads to OT, which Weber won.

Yep. Kick the f*cking PAT.

And if you DO have to go for it, line up and run a real damn play

But then Griz got 2 later and kicked for 1 in between. Do the f*cking math! And they got their 2 on a trick play. Do some people watch the games?
Yeah they did, which they didn't need to attempt. Chasing points is a sure fire way to lose.

And yes, they finally got an Illegal Formation Gate to work. Yay.

You're kicking their ass with base offense. Stick with it.

Man, hindsight is always 20-20.
Wasn’t hindsight. My group was screaming this at the TV during the game. Not really hindsight, just blatantly obvious to any casual fan watching this game, let alone a high school coach or D 1 college coach.

Because we needed a touchdown and were 13 yards out. Those aren't automatic. If we're down 3, yes, I agree your scenario makes sense. Or if we were inside the five, maybe. But you take touchdowns when you get them. Imagine if we'd run it a few times and then not scored. Bobby's yard would be nothing but "for sale" signs.
Not scored? Time was not an issue at all. Over 2 minutes to go 50 yards on what you know is your final drive of the hand. Down and distance was all that mattered at that point. It’s your last drive of the game and you need a TD to not lose. Too little time was not even a remote concern.

Of course this would have been ideal, on that we all agree. But are you suggesting we pass up the touchdown with 59 seconds left on 2nd and 7 from the 13 yard line??
No. But the 5 or 6 plays prior to that the Griz did not let any time run off the clock at all! They kept snapping the ball with 25+ seconds on play clock. Should’ve been snapped in low teens. My entire crew was shouting this the entire last drive.

You know it’s your last drive and lack of game clock is not even a remote issue. The only issue of concern was our D holding off Weebs O… Period. Thought this was blatantly obvious to the 100,000+ people watching but apparently not.

I must’ve failed to communicate. We were talking about bleeding the clock the ENTIRE drive, NOT just the final play.

To your point you made above, the down and distance was the only real threat. Too little clock was not even on the radar of issues.

Also, your argument against bleeding more clock is “what if he didn’t catch it then it’s 3rd and 7” which is an argument about down and distance and has absolutely NOTHING to do with too little time. You’re making my point - down and distance was the ONLY concern on this drive, NOT too little game clock remaining to score.

I wondered why we lined up to go for two again and then changed after Weber called timeout. We go for two there and make it Weber is forced to go for a TD. Though I'm not convinced, they wouldn't have been successful.
