Hauck

The 3-3-5 needs to be thrown out the window. We need to run a 4-4-3. We need more guys on the line to contain the edge. We have zero edge speed this year and it all starts at the line. Our immediate secondary needs some serious help since that is where we are getting burned.
We can't just "shift" to a 4-4-3 in the middle of the season. We have ONE NT. ONE. We don't have two 290 lb DT's cpaable of starting, let alone two MORE to provide relief. It is what it is at this point fellas.

We don’t have the players to run a 3-3-5 at this point.

And that's a problem of recruiting. I know Hauck has said that its easier to recruit to the 3-3-5 but we need bigger more physical guys for the line. I think we got complacent and didn't think for the future past Gubner. I know we can't just "shift" but I just wanna see something different.

I’ve watched Griz football forever. Back in the day… our defense was the pride of Montana. We have Tim Hauck and went backwards?! Makes no sense…. I won’t talk shit on the kids - but, both sides of the ball are hard to watch. Been outplayed all year.
Offense hasn't been that hard to watch this year. Defense and special teams though...

It's like a bizarro Montana from 2021

A real problem now though is if you recruit for the future some current starters think that you're trying to replace them (which, duh, but also when you're gone, not immediately), so they transfer. I hate the "kids have a soft mentality" crap but when you see people like the Iowa WR deciding halfway through the season they'll redshirt now, I don't really know anymore.

Do you feel we have the players to run a 4-3?
Not on the back end but it's not as difficult and MIGHT provide help on the outside. This all reminds me of where Stitt ended up. Prolific offense and zero defense. My hope is these players "come along" and can hold teams to under 28 points. If my understanding is correct the 3-3-5 helps hide a certain weakness. My question which weakness is the weakest?

Hauck has had a lack of emotion on the sideline this year. The only time I saw him show any emotion on Saturday was when he was chewing Peace's ass for causing them to burn a timeout in the second half.

When your season and goals are on the line there better be some damn emotion.

From the outside, looking in, There is nothing stucturally wrong with your base D. It isn't just always 3 on the front or 3 backers. The Griz D shows multiple looks and has motion to confuse blocking assignments. It is not easy for an offense to prepare for what UM throws at them.

Our QB was looking for potential 1 on 1 matchups with your secondary. Fortunately, he found them often and our receivers did well to beat their man. We seemed to catch you guys in safety blitzes often. It may have been a little play action as well.

At any rate, we didn't exactly stop your offense either. I feel like both of our Ds will stiffen up as the season progresses. At least, that is what I'm hoping.

It was a really good win for you guys. Congrats. Your QB did everything that could have been asked of him, and your offense did good work. Your running back looked really tough, too, and I haven't seen that mentioned enough.

There in lies the problem. We do not have the caliber of players needed to compete at these positions. It's been that way for some time and has never changed.

I don't know much about defensive schemes, or whether or not adding two guys up front will fix the problems on defense. But I'll wholeheartedly agree with this point you made about edge speed. Our ends, LBs, and corners are all getting beat on the outside. Speed on defense used to be this defense's defining trait - we'd hear opposing coaches and commentators talk about it all the time. The sudden drop off has been mind boggling, honestly.
