Coaching

The issue on defense is talent, yes, but I think the criticism of the coaches is legit. The scheme doesn't match the players you have this season. Those 2 corners last year could play on an island. Gubner could penetrate and/or fully occupy a double team. Your LBs and safeties were fast and good blitzers. I don't think any of that personnel really exists on this team so when they blitz on 3rd down this year they don't often get the "party on the pile" effect they had last year, more often they get gashed. A qb with a little escapability and some decent wrs is going to have a field day against it this year. Ala yesterday.

One of those two CB’s is the same…and his play is…suspect.

One of those LB’s is the same…he has….little help.

Bad angles. Bad tackling. Bad scheme. Bad coverage. Slow sideline to sideline. Little pressure.

It’s a recipe for success.

Yeah watching last year to this year, the decline in team speed on defense is notable. Good call.

I think there may be some butting of heads with our DCs. We should have made Tim Hauck our DC and just ran with it. Not this two DC crap. I think this year it’s a combo of everything. Talent, coaching, no lateral speed and no vertical speed. It’s just baffling.

When will teams learn not to leave points on the field. Take those points whenever they present especially in the first half

Coincidentally, CB play has declined with the departure of a former NFL CB as DC?

The off-season we need to hire someone with CB experience. That or make it a bigger coaching point of emphasis this season.

Speaking of CB, play Loud way more!
I'll keep banging that drum for Loud.

To add:
We really need the return of a piss and vinegar Bobby Hauck over Defensive and special teams mistakes!

The older more mellow Bobby needs to take a temporary backseat.

What I would like to see out of Bobby is honesty. A flat-assed honest explanation as to what happened, why, and what he's gonna do about it. None of this Monday Night $ecrecy Club $hit. There's film that documents what the Griz have done well, as well as what it has failed at doing, so it's not like giving away the game plans. This all falls back on him anyway. The buck stops with him.
I don’t agree with you often but THIS.

Totally agree. Our high pressure approach is not getting done and leaving us exposed.
Since we are not getting home anyway why not go to a more base defense and play more sound and not leave so many one on one match ups that we are not winning. In my opinion we would give up fewer big plays and resulting points. Let the offense take over.
They have proven they can score.

What really bugs me is how often you see guys looking at the sideline raising their arms like where is the call as the ball is about to be snapped. Multiple times our guys were getting the call and trying to get down as the offensive line was already firing off. It is definitely a component that isn’t working.

Was it just me or does it seem like our guys aren’t keeping there head up when tackling? Trying to arm tackle and looking down uhh ain’t gonna work. Keep your head up and wrap up! Jesus.
If Hauck and co can’t get this squared away this week in practice this team struggles to win another game this year. We gave up 90 points in two games and like what 1000 yards of office. That’s freakin ridiculous .

I would LOVE to go back through the eGriz annals and find all the posts/posters who were BEGGING for Tim Hauck to be the DC….BEGGING Bobby to bring Tim in to show these players how it’s done…
This isn't Tim's defense. Or Cooper's. This is Bobby's defense, and they just get to call the plays. They certainly didn't bring this defense to Montana, and I don't know that either of them ever coached in a 3-3-5 before coming on board at Montana.

I'm not going to give up on the staff or team yet, but Bobby is real clear that the defense is his, and it is his way that others need to learn. The buck stops there.
