Defense

Well all we have to do is survive next week. Idk if we’re capable of that, but if they just find a way to win next week, then we have the bye where they can really work on things and tinker some things. After that we have the 2 gutter balls of the league to work on things defensively before Davis comes to town. There is time to turn things around defensively, I just don’t know if they’re capable or not.

Newsflash: WE are one of the gutterballs of a really bad league. No amount of “work” or “tinkering” is going to fix the issues that plague this particular set of players/talent level.

I am not full gutterball yet. They don't need the defense to be impenetrable, they just need it to not be total ass

Leaving out the vastly undermanned Morehead State game…

Last three+ games:

243 yards & 20 points in 2nd half against UND
477 yards & 35 points against a 1-3 Western Carolina
551 yards & 49 points against a 1-4 EWU
541 yards & 55 points against a 2-3 Weber team

Not only are they total ass, they’re getting ass…ier. Not sure what transpired in the locker room at halftime of the UND game, but it’s been a shitshow ever since.

I think our linebackers are really bad at or they just can’t physically do it, dropping deep enough to play the slants and curls.

Teams seem to know that they can’t attack the areas in the pass that our LBs should be occupying.

I don’t buy the whole talent level argument. We have a lot of guys that were talented enough to play on the national title team. A lot of guys that are FBS talent.

What we lost are a ton of dudes that were like 6-7 year covid players that played a ton with each other.

To me it all looks like a bunch of guys that don’t know eachother and haven’t played well yet together.

I used to think that but I'm not buying it anymore. It's halfway through the season now. They need to figure their crap out.

The worst part of the post-game press conference was Bobby explaining that they were in man coverage on the three long TDs in the second half. At some point, don't you make adjustments instead of leaving your players on an island?

We’re playing TRUE freshmen and RS Freshmen in out defensive backfield. That’s some piss poor planning by the coaches. Not a single transfer DB has made a dent. Not Lawler. Not Ford. Not Gordon (who got the start tonight).

They need to change something up, coach the guys up better or think of something to fix this (and I hope they do, truly) because we can't afford to be giving up 550 yards and 49 points a game and expect to repeat as Big Sky Champs
I think we need another Defensive Anylyst....

If Lawlor and Ford are worse than their counterparts then we in deep you know what.

Maybe 6-6 then? 7-5? Take your pick.
We will be

Were now averaging giving up 453 yards and 41.2 points a game vs non Pioneercompetition, and we'd have to win 4 remaining games to ensure a playoff spot. I am seriously doubting we are capable to do that at this point

Yep. Games left:
NAU - L
@ UNC - W
@ CP - W
Davis - L
PSU - Tossup
@ MSU - L

I don’t see four wins on that remaining schedule after what we’ve witnessed the last 3 weeks.

Only hope we have next week is that supposedly NAU lost their starting QB, so maybe keeping their point total around 60 is possible

Does our Offense look like a gutter ball to you? Newsflash: no part of UNC or Cal Poly is good. They’re bad in all 3 phases. We’re bad in 2 and dynamite in 1. Therefore we’re not a gutter ball yet
