Roll with Fife

Fife is far more talented. Can make all the throws - and did.

Maybe you missed who was the offensive player of the week was in the BSC. 701 yards total offense, 364 passing, 5 TD passes in a BSC game. Ah Yat has never done any of that.
You're right, Ah Yat hasn't been given a full game to play against one of the worst defenses in the Big Sky.

Roll with Fife? How about Fife around and Find out?

Look great against Ewoo. Absolutley. I'm not sure Drake didnt' play then better in its nail bitter, but still.

If you like Pease. And Pease seems to be a popular coach these days, then trust this decision to field whomever he fields.
I love Pease hes the 2nd best coach on this team. I would love to roll with his decision to play the best guy.

After watching him dismantle Ewoo, I think this is the right call at the moment. He looked superb in his reads and ability to hit the open man (albeit against a garbage Ewoo D)
also made throws to receivers through tight windows in good coverage, same with end of WCU game. big boy throws.

i feel like this argument works for broken plays and wide open receivers, but he made throws through tight windows in good coverage too, when the game was on the line, same as WCU

You have to respect Mellott but he has to run so much that it's hard on him, I think.
Wat? I think he’s looking the best he ever has, and is playing the best football of his career. The Cats don’t do many plays any more that are designed QB runs, fyi.

My view is that MSU has been able to get away with not running Mellott much and with having him throw more passes (mostly shorter), but won't be able to win the big games, or all of them, without having Mellott run a lot more. At least, he's getting to work on his passing, and the team on its pass game. Presumably, that is coming along.

I call BS on Mellott playing the best football of his career. He is doing fine against crappy teams.

I just can see MSU's offense being as good by trading Mellott's running and speed, for whatever his passing games turns out to be. His run game is special; his passing game will never be close to anything special. I understand why the Cats are trying to do this, i.e. to preserve Mellott in general, as well as with Chambers gone.

I just looked at the stats and Mellot has rushed 28 times and Ah Yat has rushed 29 times this year and Fife 16 times. the most rushes in a game was the new mexico came with 9 and the least was 2 rushes against mercyhurst. His passing stats are 71/103 for 857 yards. looks like Fife is 51/77 599 yards and Ah Yat 55/86 459 yards. I know the games are not the same but I was a bit surprised that Mellott has not run as much as it seems.

He showed me everything I need to know about how good he can be when he orchestrated that epic comeback win against UNM. Gamer.

Perhaps I was talking through my (Griz) hat. 😊

His completion percentage is up and has progressed each year, but his yards per completion hasn’t changed much over his time as a starter. He’s running less, but still averaging 6 rushes per game, probably would be a little bit higher if he had played full games if not for the UTU, Maine and Mercyhursts of the world.

I watched some of the Mercyhurst game and noticed that.

Did you see Mellott play in high school? Was he always this fast or did he gradually get faster once he entered college. Some guys have that natural speed and then you got those other guys who worked their ass off and got fast in college. I wonder what his 40 time is.

Tommy had the best passing game of his career yesterday, 334.2 RTG. Cats passed for more yards than rushed for the first time in a LONG time. 225 yards, 4 TDs, ran for another TD. Now for the season he's over 1,000 yards, 12 TDs, zero INTs. just under 70% completion rate. Yes, this is my official "I told you so" post for all the dummies that continue to say that all Tommy can do is run, he sucks at passing, etc.

Before a bunch of said dummies jump on this and say "Yabbut you haven't played anybody"... save your key strokes. I have a feeling he's going to play well against ID Saturday night. If he lays an egg in that game then by all means - feel free to flame away on me.

I don't think they time the 40 at MSU, but I have heard and read that his split times in other speed tests are equal to or better than Troy Andersen's, so that would put him at a sub 4.4 40 time.

And that's Fife's fault?

You sound like Democrats blaming Trump for a bad economy and terrible border security. In reality, they inherited a terrific economy, secure border, and no wars.
In whose reality? The reality is that we are experiencing the strongest economy in years (you realize a President can do only so much to control grocery or gas prices, unless you want price controls implemented, which truly would be socialism, which Biden has rejected), Republicans tanked a bipartisan bill to solve border problems at Trump's specific request and if Trump has his way, Russia will be gifted a large chunk of Ukraine pretty much scot free.
