Everything needs improvement except these things

He looked great against a terrible defense and had previously only looked okay against better teams. Hopefully, if he's the guy going forward (big if), he can keep it up.
I’ll never understand this argument. Every great QB we played in the playoffs last year looked worse against us (a better team). Even Gronowski didn’t meet his usual standard. Every great QB pads their stats against substandard competition. Judging a QB by only his play against top echelon teams is disingenuous IMHO…

Fife has 6 TD’s, 0 INT’s. Ah Yat has 2/2. Fife has 2 less completions in 8 less attempts, a higher completion percentage, more yards in less completions (604/469)…and let’s be fair, other than UND, Ah Yat’s competition hasn’t been all world. Ah Yat appears to be a bit better of a runner

This is a really strong point.

I'm just saying, up until the Eastern game, there was very little daylight between them. In multiple games against the same teams, they both have been very up and down. We've also seen a ton of previous Griz QBs light it up against bad teams and then suck when facing better squads afterwards. (Simis, Chalich, Humphrey, etc.)

Maybe Fife has unlocked some new side that will take us to Frisco, and I hope he has. There's nothing, however, to suggest that Ah Yat couldn't put up huge numbers against EWU's defense. I think we should probably still roll with Fife going forward, but I could also 100% see and justify Bobby going back to Keali'i.

And i think that’s exactly what’s going to happen once he’s cleared to play. But let’s be honest: We haven’t seen Fife put up huge numbers against ANY defense…Yes, he’s 3-1 as a starter…yes Fife (up to this point) had played only in a mop-up role…But nobody (not even combined) had the kind of day Fife had Saturday.

I think the common denominator here is that only one of them got to play EWU's defense.

I hope it's because Fife mastered the offense and became a new QB overnight, but I am dubious that that's the case.

I personally don't think we're in a bad spot, no matter who plays QB. The 300+ yards rushing, to me, was way more pivotal in securing the win. If we can do that every week, we aren't going to lose for a long time, regardless of what our QBs do throwing the ball.

I agree…it’s definitely NOT the spot of worry on this particular squad.

Absolutely agreed that this is a great problem and debate to have. It has been a long while since we have had debates about which QB is better for all the right reasons.

I do want to push back just a bit, respectfully, on the "Fife mastered the offense and became a new QB overnight," part. Honest to god, I will not be mad about whichever guy is starting Saturday. There are logical and legitimate arguments for both, and I think it will be Ah Yat whenever he is healthy, but that is just a guess on my part.

The part I would suggest, though, is that Fife HAS shown these flashes throughout his career. When he came, I had looked at his Hudl and highlights of him and made a very excited post about him joining the team. All of the things he showed against EWU, or almost all of them, have showed up in the past. It is all there on his tape. I specifically remember thinking that this kid is a serious prospect for us, and just needed some time in the system. He has had it now, and I don't think his performance at the end of WCU and the game against Eastern were outliers for his ability. I don't think he became a new QB overnight, I think he is the same QB with another year of maturity and having gotten some amount of mastery of the offense.

Just my two cents. I think we win this weekend either way, and that's all that matters in the end for this week.

Sure that's all fair, but I guess I'll push back against your pushback here lol.

All we ever see are the results in games. It's incredibly easy to look at them and make conclusions about guys.

But the coaches see these guys literally every day. Fife flashed in the past (I'm taking your word for it, I don't remember seeing his highlights) and did very well against a terrible EWU defense, but we shouldn't act like there couldn't possibly be a reason that the coaches have consistently rolled him out behind Keali'i in games until the kid couldn't play. I don't believe for a second that KAY couldn't hit those play action deep passes we ran last weekend. We haven't called as aggressive an offensive game plan all year. Maybe with such aggression, KAY goes for 500 yards and 7 TDs, who knows.

Eastern had zero pass rush. Effectively none. Something Logan has struggled with early on this season is dealing with consistent pressure. Ah Yat also has struggled, but to me has done a better job of it. What happens when Fife has Weber players in his face all day? Is he still going to show the same control of the offense? I don't know. It's very hard to extrapolate from one game, especially when outside of that game, the guy has been pretty up and down.

But I trust the coaches. If they think KAY is playing better all week and he's good to go, I hope they start him. If they don't, then I hope they start Logan. But if they're close enough that it doesn't matter, I always want them to default to starting the young guy.

Try being substituted in and out of the game. When he got a full game - he really performed. I don’t want to hear about the competition being poor. Balogna. He stepped in and got the job done on the road in a hostile environment. The kid did a great job. We are fine at QB. Ah Yat is also a good QB. Both are still trying to find their way with the offense. They will get there. One game at a time.
And I meant he hadn’t played “as well”, not that well. I have been a quiet Fife since before the season. No qb can play like he did against EWU every game. He was awesome. If he could play like that every game, the Griz would won the national championship.

I want to see Ah Yat nail a clutch drive like Fife vs, WCU with it all on the line. Until then he's 1b. Do i think he can and will? Why yes I do. Still think it's a nice problem to have 2 capable Qbs ready to go as long as you can keep them happy.

Easy now, lot of pushing going on.... ;)

I would actually agree with all of that, including and especially your point that the coaches are the ones watching every day. They would know far more than I do, or ever could, about who the right fit is.

I have no doubt that there are many reasons they would want to go with KAY, including that he is younger. I just don't know that I agree on Fife showing anything he hadn't before. If he had a full game to get comfortable, I'd think he would deal with pressure much better. I never played QB anywhere other than my backyard, but I'd imagine it is tough to come in cold and try to find any rhythm against the blitz. I think we are in a great spot, and I'm with you in being happy that if KAY is still on the mend, we have a backup we can absolutely believe in when the chips are down.

Always knew it would be tough to make a corner the #37. You will get beat and then you forget it, they don't remember the passes they didn't throw because you blanketed the guy. Ask any NFL insider how good Mark Haynes was. Don't remember him? Yeah because nobody threw on him...ever.

They appear to have no problem throwing on Gradney. Or Jackson. Or Meyer. Or Rauch. Or Lawler. Or Loud. Or Boyd. Or Lee. Or just about anybody…

That sucked. It was entertaining all the way through, never lost faith the Griz could (and should) win.

But man, the refereeing in that game was terrible, even final TD call aside. They refused to police Weber from starting fights and half that team should have been ejected on the opening kickoff.

Still, the defense put the team in a bad position regardless of officiating and couldnt get a stop when they needed to. That was a game the Griz had in hand and lost.

AZ, keep Loud out of your mouth.
You must not have paid much attention with his play. He's played well in his reps. He's earned much more playing time.
