Another good weekend for possible upsets, with three ranked-vs-ranked matchups Beyond that, we have several games where ranked teams face very credible opponents … many of which are receiving votes in the STATS poll.

As usual in the past, the team on the left is the underdog that might pull off the upset.

You are allowed two choices, and you can change your vote later if you want to.

Official verification: Bobcats suck!

Commentary
The Central Arkansas at Abilene Christian game is hard to figure because neither team seems to deserve its ranking, especially the Bears. After losing to FBS Arkansas State, Central Arkansas gathered their record with wins at powers like Lindenwood and Arkansas-Pine Bluff … teams with a combined record of (7-12). The main claim to fame for the Wildcats is that they forced FBS TCU into overtime before losing. Their other loss was to Idaho. They beat a team that’s in its first year as an FBS program, and their other wins were over teams that haven’t won any games this year, Good luck picking this one!

On the other hand, the North Dakota at North Dakota State deserves plenty of hype. I’ll just say that the Bison are tough to beat at home.

You can say the same for the Illinois State at Southern Illinois game. They seem evenly matched so I’d give a slight edge to the Salukis at home.

The Villanova at Stony Brook game should be a good test. Each lost to an FBS opponent and have otherwise played a mid-level schedule, To me, this is a definite pickem’

With South Dakota State traveling to Northern Iowa, this is the chance for the Panthers to show they can compete for the MVFC title this year. (Neither has played a conference game yet,)

The Rhode Island at Hampton game should be more competitive than you might expect from the rankings. (Hampton has received NO votes in the STATS poll.) The Pirates are no powerhouse, but besides the FBS loss, the Rams have played a total cupcake schedule (combined 3-11 records).

I included the New Hampshire at Harvard game for those who like to measure the Ivies against a “real” FCS team. The Wildcats haven’t played anybody (combined 3-9) after losing to UCF. This does not look like a top Harvard team. but I think they could give the Wildcats a tussle.

If UND-NDSU were in grand forks I would say UND wins handily. I picked them anyway because last year they had the bizun’s number and they seem pretty legit so far.

Right now, lots if voters agree with you. But its seems to me that the Bison have filled some holes and will again be hard to beat at home. Upset possible, but not one of my picks.

Follow-Up
Some writers in the area seem to slightly favor Abilene Christian … partly because they’re at home and also because they have a more balanced offense … capable of putting up plenty of yards through the air while also having a solid ground game.

Sports Illustrated analyst favors the Bison because he thinks their defense has finally gelled and will be able to contain the North Dakota offense.

According to reports, the Illinois State - Southern Illinois game will depend upon who gets better “next man up” performance. Both teams have been crippled by key injuries. There are suggestions that the Salukis – being at home – will get more back, giving them the edge.

Analyst lean toward the known quality of Villanova, but admit that Stony Brook has become a surprise contender. The Wildcats have a possible weak spot in that their QB is completing barely half of his passes, while the Seawolves front seven have piled up a bunch of Tackles For Loss.

Even the Northern Iowa coaching staff do not sound particularly optimistic about their chances. even at home, against SDSU. Their main glimmers of hope are their defense, which has been stout against FCS opponents, and the fact that the offense might be ready to gel.

Hampton University did not report any damage from the recent heavy rain and flooding. However, it would have probably been a distraction, with some players' families in danger. Still, events like that often make teams even more determined to play well.

Not a lot of discussion of the Harvard-New Hampshire game. Harvard is on a seven game home winning streak. So they have that going for them.
