This week's GFP is live and as many saw on twitter, we have it out with the QB chatter. We give love to ALL of our running backs and talk more on rotation for the group. We also try to give some insights and talk on what the defense can build on and what type of improvements could help. After all the fireworks we give some time to Weber and then get to fan questions as well.

And now I have entertainment for my flight today! Thanks as always gentlemen. Sorry for not getting questions in this week. I trust James got a shower in?

Fun listen, but you guys kept dancing around the primary issue, in my opinion. Yes, they’re like a$$holes, but it wasn’t directly presented, only indirectly.

Fact: Fife was WAY more calm cool and collected in the pocket during high pressure downs, ESPECIALLY, when he KNEW he was going to get blasted. KAY isn’t nearly as calm cool and collected and willing to take the hit to complete a must have pass. It’s clearly obvious when watching crucial, must have high pressure downs/ needing to get the 1st down or completion.

At the end of the day, it’s outstanding the Griz have such an issue this year!

Fun listen when you got into the meat and potatoes! 👍

Brint and Mike both made great points about the QBs. I agree with Mike and Kyle. KAY should be QB1 and Fife is 1A. Mike made the best point with we have not ever had a long term QB since we dont play young guys! We FINALLY have the opportunity of a generation to play a potential 4 YEAR starter at QB. I don't think this has ever happened at least in my recent life time. Fife did play fantastic against EWU but I think his performance was embellished by how shitty of a defense Eastern has. That game for Fife was a great confidence builder and allowed him to show some stuff. I made this point a long time ago, but what if we had Dalton Sneed for 3 years? Hell even 4 years. Those Griz offenses would have been unstoppable. Griz recruiting has been so lack luster with not brining in QBs they want to develop and have always gone straight to the transfer portal for a drop down. KAY is a 4 year starter and I will ride with him until he shows us that he can't handle the pressure. But don't be mistaken, I am glad we have Fife! This is a GOOD problem to have. For the first time in years, the Griz Offense is NOT the liability of this team.

I don’t think there’s a ton of difference between KAY and Fife in many ways. They are both mobile enough. KAY is faster when he does take off. Fife is a little bit bigger and more developed physically to take hits when he takes off.

The two biggest differences I saw in Fife vs KAY is that Fife goes through his progressions much better and his arm strength down the field seems much better than KAY at this point. The game just seems like it has slowed down for Fife and it hasn’t yet for KAY. They are both still prone to make a bad decision here or there, but this really made the decision tough for what we need this year vs the future.

I agree with most of this. Ah Yat is good and is getting better every game but he does go for the 1st read alot. He will eventually get it. That takes reps. Fife has the ability to scan the field already so i feel more comfortable with him going forward but definitely need to give Ah Yat all the reps we can when we can

Harm I agree with you 100% here! Not sure some of the other hosts would though haha.

Fife made throws in the EWU game Ah Yat has not yet continually made, and he made them all night long. As you point out Fife goes through progressions well, where Ah Yat as a younger and less experienced QB tends to look at option 1, option 2, and then run.

To play devils advocate between you and Mike. IF KAY is the future, and IF he really did have a concussion, should we take our time to avoid rushing him back and allow him to properly heal up to make sure it doesn’t become a chronic issue since we have a very capable backup?

I don’t know why it surprised you guys the pass dominated the early game. We tried three formations including a heavy formation on the first drive with 3 straight runs to Gilman that resulted in a 3 and out. They kept coming with a heavy box and daring us to throw and we did.

We definitely distributed the ball to Fontes with several catches and a big drop that would have been a td.

I’m glad you guys on the Covid year impacting the roster. I think it will take a bit to normalize. Everyone is disappointed we didn’t get a lot of Montana guys this year so far, but we got a ton in 2021 due to Covid limitations of keeping extra guys on scholarship and look at where our depth is now. SDSU has come back down to earth, NDSU has cracks, Idaho does as well, it’s not just 1-2 teams at the top vs the field, it’s a little more competitive.

As far as our coverage on kickoff, we didn’t even get chances to get work due to fair catches through the first 4 game and we just faced one of the best kickoff returners in the league. We did keep him from breaking one but gave up a lot of field position.

Fife needs to be QB1. That out route throw to White Ah Yat never makes. Not to mention Ah Yat makes plenty of freshman mistakes (expected) and we can’t afford random picks/fumbles/sacks. Especially with this defense. If we can settle on one guy you’d think it’d help Pease develop a rhythm and call a game. Also feel like Fife brings a lot of leadership with his play experience and age. Bottom line Fife is more efficient.
