Sac State gearing up for FBS push...

I'm hearing the Dakota States are in play, just not the first option. The MWC Needs to expand to the Central TZ in order to rebuild its TV deal and Football only adds make the most sense. Both Dakota States would be cool leaving their basketball in the Summit.
Not sure what kind of insider info you got that you would know that lol. That still makes for a big financial jump for NDSU as they’d still have to pay the move up fee and additional scholarships and more women’s sports. Yes they’d still be in the Summit for everything else, but financially they’d still have a lot of work to do.

Sac State fans probably not too happy right now lol
A lot of fans not happy right now at the FCS level. However, with the pending lawsuit and the potential of dissolution, the MWC needs solutions right now. Existing FBS teams make the most sense. If they had 2 years like the PAC 2 did it would be going down a little differently. Bet there’s been some late night and all nighters at the conference offices this last week and a half.

I'm just happy sac's facilities will finally be at the bsc level, since they'll be stuck there forever with the GRIZ, western Oregon, central Washington, Drake, Monmouth and southeast upstate teachers college.

I think this may have more to do with the Big Ten and SEC putting their foot down on not letting anymore FCS teams move up and get in on the CFP pie with everyone else. I think if they could, they’d be relegating teams down to FCS

Ev, I throw nothing but love your way. I think you are a top shelf poster and probably a very good person, so grain of salt this. I assume you don't see us going P2 or even P2 lite (ACC, Sun Belt, PAC 2) so do you us landing MWC? What would be the advantage of playing in the Mountain West? How many mountain west teams will get into the P2 playoffs this year? I still don't understand how the G5 playoff systems works?

Thanks Sask. right back attcha.

Well currently there isn't a G5 championship. But there will be. There just too much money to gain for all stakeholders NOT to.

But more than that, it's clear to me that the fcs will soon be all but irrelevant (if it truly has any national relevance now, which is arguable). I'm serious when I suggest we'll soon see the central Washington's of the world in our conference if we stand pat.

We can and should do better. If there's a playoff, great. If not, at least we'll win a conference championship against teams people have heard of and who don't have to circle their fields with the headlights of cars from their parking lot if the game runs long and it starts getting dark.

Isn't Toledo in the Eastern time zone? With Hawaii in there, well that's something that the b10 didn't have the balls to do.

I can tell you a big factor...student fees.

In 2023 UM had $1.05 million from student fees for athletics. Kennesaw had $15.74.

In 2023 Sac St had $29.19 million in institution/government support while UM had $7.14.

The total of all 3 combining student fees & institution/government support:

UM - $8.18 million
Kennesaw - $22.14 million
Sac St - $38.73 million
Informative post. Thx for doing it.

Wish our AD was as forward thinking, ill support the Griz no matter what but it's frustrating to potentially again watch other teams upgrade around us as FCS continues to become watered down.
Our AD can't magically move Missoula into Northern California. It's purely geography at this point.

THIS all day! I know what I paid for my son to go to NAU

I overused a joke about moving Boise to Florida for BSU fans who were perpetually upset about not getting into a power conference. But I’d pick Florida over Northern California. And I do not own the rights to that joke if you feel so inclined.

Let's just say for the sake of discussion, that Sac State does succeed and is invited to the PAC-12. Do you think the Big Sky invites San Diego out of the Pioneer Football League to add another California team back into the conference?

Makes sense. Sac has better state support than the Griz. If it can boost its ticket revenue, I would be OK.
Not sure about that hot Sac media market. Old Doug Foolerton was talking about that 30 years ago.

If you'd pick Florida over Northern California, you clearly have never been to either. Unless you want to be the next "Florida man"

I agree with this. I’ve been to Florida plenty of times, and while I’m not a huge fan of Northern California (though it is vast with many different areas), at least it doesn’t feel like a discount cruise ship on land. Just my experiences.
