Now imagine all the kids who were lured in with NIL promises those promising never intended to keep that don't have their redshirt year left.

So the underhanded shenanigans that have always gone on under the table in college football are now blasted out on social media. I guess we can call that progress
.If he did this on his own i wonder how this effects his next opportunities. I get promises were made but as a coach, would i want a player like this?

If he was promised NIL money that didn’t materialize, why not sit out and go somewhere else? If you were promised big money for a job, and weren’t being paid that money, wouldn’t you move on?
I didn't realize this was the Holy Cross qb until i saw the skyline tweet this morning. I was thinking it was some freshman. I agree with you.
Because he has teammates and a university paying for his eduction.
He has chosen to turn his back on them...loyalty matters.
I'll admit I am the get off my lawn guy, but college football players used to play for each other and their schools. If this is the new normal...the game will change beyond recognition in my opinion.

yes, they used to. But it's a brave new world, Soldier. And I'm guessing you wouldn't continue putting your ass out there if the government SAID they were going to pay you but then didn't...

Yes, I'm using it as an example. Many, many civilians have left jobs after they weren't given what they were promised. College football (and certainly FBS college football) has become just that: a job. And if their NIL made promises to him that they can't and won't deliver on, I'd do exactly what he's done. Kid's not playing pro ball...this is his one/only chance to squeeze some $$ out of this.
And I think this is an absolutely HORRID look for UNLV. They may as well pack it in after this experience, because NOBODY is gonna believe them when they start throwing money around...

The more the college game trends toward the pro game...the worse it will get. Just my opinion.
To me the kid who quits on his team mid-season is an entitled, unhireable twit.

This is the new normal. What can a young college athlete do if he is lied to about NIL? This is a failure of the system. NIL has no protections built in for this type of deceit by a group that can run amuck. I don't fault the kid, whom has basically become an employee, he has no other path of recourse.
This makes me wonder how often in the past, when it was against the rules, kids were promised money to come to play sports, and once they get there they get told "tough luck, what are you going to do, go to the media about it, admit you have been on the take at all, and lose all your eligibility?"

Nah. It doesn't make a person a twit if they were under contract to get paid (in addition to scholarship) and were not and decided to go somewhere they could get paid. That sucks, but those are the rules of engagement these days.

It'll be interesting to see if there were any actual contract type agreements in place. If so, yikes to UNLV. If not, yikes to the kid and his parents leaving the door open to get taken advantage by the system.
