2 QBs so far

Listening to GFP and they are talking about how Western Carolina missed the playoffs last year largely due to the fact that their QB got hurt for the last game of the year and the backup didn't play well until it was too late. They were down 27-10 in the 4th against VMI and ended up losing 27-24.

While I can't imagine that if we lost our starting QB near the end of the season that we wouldn't make the playoffs. But it definitely could cost us home games.

Using 2 Qbs which leads to watching us possibly not playing our best in our pre-conference games as insurance for later in the Fall makes sense to me. Especially since we have 2 QBs that are so close in abilty to run our offense that it is debatable who should be #1.

Now we are close enough to the heart of the season, playing what could be a fairly tough matchup that I think we see our #1 play the whole game or at least until we have created an insurmountable lead. (Or the #1 is stinking up the joint - see Vidlak). My guess is that KAY will be #1 and it is his job to lose. His passing seems crisper and generally more accurate. Fife seems a stronger runner which worked well last year.

By now the coaches have enough practice and game film to make their choice. I am good with whoever they pick but the time is now to choose and go with it.

Hopefully we kick the Catamounts butts early and often and get to see both. But if not the time is nigh for 1 QB and roll with him.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think it's really that debatable who should be the #1 QB right now.

Ah Yat is clearly the better passer, and I don't think it's particularly close.

I also don't think Fife has shown he's the better runner than Ah Yat.

Taking away both player's sacks, Ah Yat has gained 75 yards on 12 carries (6.25 avg) and Fife has 35 yards on 6 carries (5.83 avg). If you do look at sacks, Fife also has taken more sacks per dropback than KAY, as well (.105 for Fife and .103 for KAY).

Like they said on the pod, Ah Yat has missed some big plays that he needs to hit if we want him to ascend to the type of guy that can win us a NC, but I think 3 games in, it appears to me like our QB1 has already separated himself. I suppose this could change if Keali'i just absolutely falls apart this weekend, however.

Back to the original question, should we use 2 quarterbacks? I certainly don’t think it’s a bad idea given the chance that number 1 should go down or performs poorly. All you have to do is look at Idaho. I believe they’re down to number three if I’m correct. To me it would make sense to give number 2 a series or two in second and 3rd quarter. Of course it would depend on where we’re at in the game. Because both our quarterbacks bring different strengths, run vs pass, it makes the other team prepare for both situations.

Real coaches pick one QB and roll with him. It makes no sense to hypothetically think about injuries that could happen. Both our QBs could be hit by a car or meteor. Probably not going to happen, just like a QB getting hurt during the season, probably not going to happen. Much more probability of an OL getting hurt.

Maybe we shouldnt play the OL starters until the playoffs, they could get hurt.

See how stupid it sounds

When you say it...sure.

The way I see it is.There was never a plan for a two quarterback system. It was a smoke screen by Hauck. You know there was a lot of smoke in the air when he said it and he took advantage of it. ;)

It looks like the coaches like Ah Yat better. He is a sharp passer.

Ay Yat hasn't shown any downfield passing. Maybe Fife hasn't either. I don't recall Fife missing open receivers, tho.

I think Fife is a better runner. I like how Fife runs the team.

I think Ah Yat makes more mistakes.

If Fife gets sacked more, then Ah Yat throws more picks. Fife fumbles more.

Ah Yat probably has a higher ceiling.

I'm fine with continuing to run 2 QB's.

Ah Yat is the guy...it is not debatable at this point. He needs to play a full game - starting this weekend.

Well here I am.You want something contentiuos I will be glad to oblige. The fact is Hout may or not be the a very good quarterback if in fact he was given a chance to preform.Should Ah Yat get injured we are in a world of elephant crap this season.I liked what I saw in Fife in his very limited play at the begining. But after further observation he has limited use for us.

I agree with all your observations but the last one.
It is time to choose who will be our #1 QB and let him play the whole game.
