Good, Bad, Ugly - Morehead St

Good:

- we needed a dominant bounce back after last week, and boy was it ever. Dominant win with lots of guys getting in to play
- 410 yards rushing, the second most in Griz history
- Ostmo going over 2000 yards for a career
- each stud RB scoring a TD….Gilman, Ostmo, Rocker Jr, and Fonoti
- speaking of Fonoti….that dude doesn’t look or run like a true freshman. He is going to be special here too!
- Riley Wilson was all over the place with sacks and TFLs
- so great to see Junior back!
- Hayden Harris with a pick and sack and TFL…he’s having a great season
- I could watch Gilman run all day…incredible and talented RB
- how about that awesome hit by Childs on Kickoff…he absolutely rocked that return man
- another creative 2 pt conversion with Fife
- the 2s and 3s not taking a step back at all and continuing to fire on all cylinders

Bad:

- only thing I can even think of is giving up the shut out with a PAT returned to the house

Ugly:

- Morehead St was way overmatched in all phases
 
36-4 first downs. 83 to 45 plays.

1 penalty.

5 sacks. 8 TFL's.

Minus 14 yards rushing for Morehead, with minus 45 on sacks. 4-16-1 passing for Morehead. 59 yards, with 1 of 32.

Only 1 punt.

Only 5-12 3d down conversions, but 4-5 on 4th down conversions. Morehead was 1-12 on 3d down conversions.

Lots of guys played, and played well.

Ah Yat was 9-11 for 79 yards, with 1 TD and 1 pick. Fife was 9-16 for 87 yards. Nice pass by Fife to Rocker towards Morehead bench.

1 bad drop. Maybe 2.

All the backs looked great. The o-line must have played well.

I was going to ask if the 410 yards rushing was a record, but I was afraid to ask another question, so thanks for answering that and allowing me to avoid the wrath of HHB.

And while I agree Morehead State was overmatched, they were ALSO overmatched against our 2nds and 3rds, which I found interesting.
 
Oh and another….holy shit we had two different times where we had 4th and 1 and we ACTUALLY got under center and did a QB sneak to EASILY pick it up both times. It was like a Christmas miracle! Why in the hell haven’t we don’t that for years. It drives me nuts when we are in shotgun in those situations. Big boy football!

And there were at least two passes to tight ends. One drop, one completion.

This can’t be overstated enough. Brown is a beast at guard, his natural position. Klimczak looked great at center. It seemed much more cohesive up front today.

The depth at Oline is something we haven’t been privy too until the last few seasons in recent memory. So good to see some young guys getting time and being successful. Really reliving to see this game.

If we run to set up the pass, we are going to be a very tough out moving forward this season. Please keep pounding the rock and playing guys to their strengths. We made the chipper last year by running the ball, least we forget.🔒

The GRIZ were renowned for depth at Oline, along with DOLA, true DOLA, (Thatcher, Balog, Proctor, et al.). Run it back boys! GO GRIZ, MAUL EM!!

"You have four, five backs like they have, I'm still trying to figure out how they lost last week," Morehead State head coach Jason Woodman said. "It just doesn't make any sense.”

"Really we were not happy about (UM's loss at UND) because we knew they were going to be fired up, ready to kill us," Woodman said, adding: "We knew that was coming. We knew we had to step it up if we had a chance to really compete with them. They came out and they played really well."

I really don’t like our two QB system especially how it played out. It was inferior opponent so didn’t matter but our vertical passing game needs to improve to beat better teams. I am sure it was scripted but I would have left our young starter in after the pick in the first half. Nick Saban spoke to that concept during a recent interview and I agree with that.

Other than that it was a get right game for the rest of the team. We have a good rushing offense that is for sure.

At least they're FCS, so it counts as a Div 1 win. SDSU only beat Div 2 Augustana 24-3 yesterday, and did not look all that great doing so. Other top teams play Pioneer League schools and Division 2 schools in the non-conference also so I don't understand the complaining. It is what it is. We got a huge win and should be happy.

For the record, they are an FCS team.....not sure who they played but they were 2-0 coming in....great team? probably not, not a super tough conference but not a D2 or D3 school either.

Good----I think the Oline and tackling both much improved.

Bad---boom crew....dear God they are bad, late, fumbling, lots of clean up needed. Music...blah...they attempted cotton eye joe but did without lyrics because apparently some idiot is offended by something....maybe new sound system upgrade.

Ugly----not much, if anything maybe the Pease playbook which is Tecmo bowl at best.

I will say in their defense, it’s kinda hard to get the crowd into the game when the stadium is half full in the second half and it’s boring as shit
