Start Fife--he started 6 games in the Mountain West, played well when called on to play for the Fresno State Bulldogs, one of the best teams in The Mountain West and bowl winners during his tenure, is a little bigger than Ah Yat weight wise and probably a little more durable, and played well in the Missouri State game, and is a little older than Ah Yat--has seen some situations in college football that Ah Yat has not yet.
I didn't get to see the game yesterday in Billings as I don't have rabbit ears for my TV, Spectrum didn't show the game in Billings, and ESPN Radio, at least 105.5 FM, didn't broadcast the game, though Cereal Killer said they did carry the game on the AM side, 910.
I just think if we want to win now, we go with the more experienced junior with FBS experience unless he completely falls on his face !!! ( My understanding is Fife played one series yesterday--only one series. How can he or any QB get in a rhythm playing only one series ? ) There is probably a good reason that the University of Minnesota of The Big 10, a mid-level conference team, offered Fife a full-ride and he was headed there until Clif transferred. And as talented as Ah Yat is--24 points in the first quarter is great !!!!--0 points in the second half is butt-ugly, and we aren't going to win many games with our current D scoring only 24 points in a game. And yes, that second half goose egg is not all Ah Yat's fault--linemen whiffed on blocks, receivers ran bad routes, and North Dakota made some great half-time adjustments !!!
I have nothing against Keli Ah Yat and do think he or Huot or both are probably our QB's of the future--tough to be definitive with the transfer portal. That said if we want to win now, not two years from now, I feel Fife gives our best chance to get back to Frisco. Right now with a young Ah Yat starting, I think we're at best # 3 in The Big Sky, behind the Shi##y Kitties with a healthy Tommy Mellott--that all changes if Tommy gets hurt !!!-- and a very tough Idaho team that just beat the Wyoming Cowpies of said FBS Mountain West using their backup QB I just don't see us either winning the Big Sky this year or getting back to Frisco and winning our 3rd NC behind a freshman QB !!!
