Gates Scholarship - Tommy Running Rabbit

This is a feel-good story that you want to read! Running Rabbit earned a very competitive scholarship that covers the entire cost of his bachelor's degree, and he's ALSO playing football. Has plans to earn his pharmacy degree and return to Browning to serve his community. Exceptional young man.

Rooting for this dude, anyone have any updates on how he's doing? Position?
He's a true freshman so no doubt red-shirting. He is listed as an athlete, and he played both sides of the ball in high school - WR/TE and LB. He's 6'1" and listed at 202 lbs so will probably play defense.

Thank you, watched some of his high school highlights and the kid can ball

Great share, Mom. Thank you.

And how remarkable is it for Tommy to have overcome all of the obstacles he faced as a teen. If he never plays a down in a Grizzly uniform he'll still be a wild success.

As an aside, the Gates Foundation is an amazing organization. The world is a far better place because of it.

Great for him. UM has a terrific pharmacy program and great support for Native Americans. My sister used to run the support and recruiting program via a grant. She was previously a long-term Missoula pharmacist, almost all for Eli Lily.

As I have said before, I knew a Running Rabbit family in Great Falls. Father and son were terrific hoops players. I assume they are related.

Can’t wait to meet him.

Thanks for the video, Da Boys Mom: If he does well at UM, he has a chance to be a legend and inspiration. His roots in Montana are much deeper than most of us. I know the Griz Nation wants him to succeed. I hope we are at the beginning of a wonderful experience for all of us.

I think that is a wonderful idea, PR! You have a unique ability to support that kid. Please do it!

If they played at the Heisey - I'm confident I played with and against them!

Ed RR played at gym on 3d Ave North and at Salvation Army. Don't know about Heisey His son played some, but not as much. Played more when he was about a sophomore. Ed played a few years at Northern. He was a good guy.

The young man seems to have a good idea where he is headed. Very smart career choice in many ways.

So what is your question? I mentioned that we have both a Native American and Native Hawaiians on the roster which is really unique and cool.
It is cool. Your initial pst was we have a native Hawaiian. We have 3, so just didn’t want it to get missed as that seems like it will be a consistent pipeline moving forward.

Well I said Native Hawaiian (singular) because I only know of one for certain which is Ah Yat because he played at Kamehameha which means you have to be Native Hawaiian to go to that school. The other 2, Fonoti and mata'afa are Samoan or Tongan from Hawaii but I don't know if they are actually Native Hawaiians. Just because you were born and raised in Hawaii that doesn't make you a Native Hawaiian.

The Griz have both a Native American and a Native Hawaiian on its roster. I just mentioned this because I thought it was unique and interesting.
We have a lot of native Montana white players too. Maybe jerk off over them as well instead of all your virtue signaling.

It's demeaning to everyone
