Griz vs Missouri State Official game thread

So, what’s wrong with JB? Injured, or in trouble? Same question for the other 3 dinged up, or in trouble?

Griz are 1-0

Missouri St will be a competitive team if they stay healthy.

Obviously, there are lots of things to clean up, but this was a season opener and growing pains were expected. The team learned A LOT. This team has ample effort, they just need to settle into their 1/11.

The Griz played a lot of players. Ramos and Otlewski played significant minutes. Loud played and only has 3 games remaining before he loses his redshirt eligibility.

H Harris 5 tackles 2.5 sacks
Tirrell 10 tackles
Kaho 7 tackles
Gordon 7 tackles
Meyer 6 tackles 1 int

Gillman 15 carries 89yd 2 TD
X Harris 3 catches 69yd 1 TD
Fife 5/7 90yd 1TD

Morrison 4 punts 181yd 61yd long 2 inside 20yd
Morrison 3/3 FG long 38yd 2/3 XP

Time to get better. Watch film, make adjustments, then it’s on to North Dakota. With two games against MVFC teams and one against a very talented W Carolina squad, the Griz will be battle tested come conference play.

Damn it feels good to win. Football is back. Go Griz!

As many have said a win is a win and I will take it

Glad we won and now have some film against another team to watch, now the real coaching starts

-wish we power formation ran the ball more, had great success doing it

-it's a long season but would like eli to get more touches, he looked as good as ever

-never have I seen a Griz team give up so many 3 and long plays for first downs.... I also think this had to do with a lot of new guys on defense figuring out assignments and angles. The angles a lot of players took to make tackles was sloppy

-we win that game by 20 plus if we don't muff that punt in the 1st quarter that changed momentum all they way tell the fourth quarter and we finally got it back

-lots of penalties and drops and mistakes from the Griz that will get cleaned up

-Missouri st had some dudes, like legit dudes on offense with that running back (number 9 looks and plays like he should be in the nfl starting this coming weekend) and a lot of speed with their x/slot players

-secondary leaves a lot open in the middle between the hash marks for easy throws, I think this will be cleaned up as the new guys learn the defense

-Pat hayden was a monster on the d-line, def bright spot for me as well as Hayden Harris stepping up down the stretch

-qb situation is what it is, I like both. But my gut tells me fife will be the guy as the running game seemed to work better with him at the helm

-crowd was rowdy and it was so Aweosme to back in way and we ended the game with three straight sacks which was pretty epic

Just a few observations and overall I'm nervous as hell about und in the road but I also think we know see this Griz team start to improve moving forward, I also think Missouri st looked and played like a playoff team even if they are not eligible..... they have what it takes

a win is a win and go Griz

With how our pass defense played tonight I am quite concerned about WCU, hopefully we get dialed in before then

2nd & 15 - led to MO State TD
2nd & 20 then 3rd & 12, 2nd & 19 then 3rd & 11 - led to MO State FG
3rd & 19 - Led to MO State TD
3rd & 16 - Mercifully, led to a MO State turnover on downs
3rd & 12 - Led to MO State TD

All 1st downs given up by our defense, and all but one led to points. All of their points came after converting a 2nd or 3rd and forever.

To me, this was the only thing that was outrageous and unacceptable today. Our defense comes through on half of those, and it's a blowout.

Yep. Gotta get off the field in those situations.

But here's the thing: There isn't a qb in the bsc who makes any of those plays. Sometimes you gotta tip your cap. Clark and Robinson are two of the best we'll see

I thought Akem said post-game that he wasn't impressed with the MS QB.

The pass D was fine, especially after UM started getting pressure on the QB. Their QB threw almost all short, and completed only 59%, with a long of 26. Was sacked 4 times, but mostly at end of game. 1 interception. No passing TD's. Not having Wilson's speed to rush the passer hurt. UM had higher average per completion and averaged more per attempt, despite the multiple drops. UM gave up 206 passing yards per game last year. MS had 257 yards passing tonight with no TD's. MS averaged 300 yards passing last year. MS had 261 yards and 23-35 passing (66%) with 2 TD's and no picks against SDSU last season.

Did you even watch the game?

I did thanks, did you? We gave up way too many 3rd and 15+/long plays, our defense can't do that and expect to win every week. UofMan broke it down already but we need to get off the field in those situations. Very happy they stepped up at the end (the 3 sacks) but we have to clean that up.

Everyone wishes UM hadn’t given up as many 3 and longs, but those were only several plays. Out of more than 40 passing plays. Nor even 1 passing TD given up. No long passes given up. If you watched the game, you obviously didn’t understand it.

I specifically mentioned the 3rd and longs, reading comprehension you should try it.

Not true. This was your entire post. You didn’t mention 3d and longs. You referred to “how our pass defense played tonighr”.
