Interesting way to get people in their seats for kickoff

They are probably onto something given the importance of music in HBCU country which can be a bigger draw than the actual football game most of the time. Also, I believe they have a pretty good market to choose from with up and coming talent not too far away.

I think as attendance has dropped and there is more competition from television broadcasts for a much cheaper price, we have seen a lot of interesting ways to continue to try and draw fans in. Some schools have gone to DJ’s, and some coaches just offer to buy the crowd a round of beer.

We are fortunate to have a great tailgating scene that makes our games more of a social function than just live entertainment.

eGriz fact check says: Mercer is not an HBCU.

There are ten HBCU's in Georgia: Albany State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Morris Brown College, Paine College, Savannah State University, and Spelman College.

None of the HBCU's in Georgia have teams that play in the FCS.

Fact check of your fact check- where in the heck did I state Mercer was an HBCU??? I stated they are in HBCU country because they are located in Macon, Georgia which is in fact in surrounded by HBCU schools, and then I went on highlight the cultural importance of music in combination with football.

The reading comprehension on egriz never ceases to amaze me.

We need a cash prize lottery of some motivating amount that takes place during the first media timeout after halftime.
  • Costs one dollar per game per seat to enter. And you can pre-enter for every home game when you renew your season tickets.
  • Your seat is the the number you play.
  • One seat number is called out during the first, third quarter media break.
  • You must be seated to claim your prize.
  • If the winner isn't seated when the number is called, the amount rolls to the next week's jackpot.
  • The GSA gets half of every pot.

Serious question - Have the expanded opportunities for buying adult beverages inside the stadium led to less people leaving at halftime?

I'm not a drinker and I've never left at halftime so I honestly have no clue but I wonder what the impact has been. Is there any plan to sell beer throughout the stadium? I know a lot of venues do that and then don't allow reentry if you leave so that's one way to keep people in the building.

They just need to do what all big schools do and not allow re-entry once you leave. Pretty simple fix that most universities with better run athletic departments figured out a long time ago.

A lot of the halftime beer seekers in my section started going to the beer garden the was set up near the South End Zone, they ended up going back to the tailgates after the lines were long and slow, selection was limited and the beer wasn't free.

Thanks for the info, even though it's not great news.

I feel like one of the data crunching posters on here should figure out if the Griz are less productive in the first half of the third quarter. If they are then get back to your seats! If not? Another round of Bud Lite (the Montana State Bobcats of beer)

If only someone had the time; like they were an over-paid law/psychology teacher in some socialist backwater, full of "death panels", 3 down football, metric temperatures that make global warming all that more confusing.

UM should get the Missoula Pearl Jam guy to play in the stadium at halftime. And pass out free beer. Or dollar beers under the stands.
Ha.

I would expect a lot of Griz fans to go get drunk and not come back. The wouldn't be missed, but still.

I read your statement as Mercer being an HBCU. It has nothing to do with reading comprehension and a whole lot to do with geography.

HBCU Country starts in Pennsylvania>>>>>Michigan>>>>>southwest to Texas>>>>>Florida right? that's not just a little Ol' part of the country, it's 2/3 of the nation.

So it's easy to misunderstand what you were attempting to convey.
