For those that are on Twitter, am I the only one that gets the hint that Shaun Rainey doesn’t particularly like covering the Montana Football program? I really can’t put my finger on it, but his attitude toward his coverage and tweets seem very… bleh. On occasion he puts together some nice features, but it almost feels like he doesn’t want to.

Wonder if it stems from Bobby’s general demeanor toward the press (of which I feel has been improved during his second tenure)?

Yes, I understand this makes me a fragile Griz fan. So if it’s just me, I’ll show myself out

I don't think it makes you fragile to make an observation and postulate the reasons behind it. Blind faith and obliviousness like Mone and then I think there would be cause for concern.

I don’t know if I believe Rainey has a grudge or chip on his shoulder about Bobby. It might be that it’s tough to get info out of the program or anything of substance. BH has always been that way with the press. It could also be that Rainey is burned out with his job and just doesn’t have the juice to get creative with his coverage. It happens. Someone a little more creative and energetic might tackle the coverage from fresh angles. Finally, the newspaper business stinks. No money and reporters just aren’t valued. I believe that is coming through in a lot of their coverage on so many issues.

Was there a particular tweet that makes you say this? I don't look at twitter often, but I went back through the last week or so of Rainey's tweets and I don't see anything that jumps out. Just curoius.

I haven’t gotten that impression at all. In fact I think I think he’s a little overzealous toward the Griz for my liking. Haha

Overall though I think he does a really good job. That said, Bobby treats him like sh*t. Lots of eye rolls and sarcastic answers to Shaun’s questions.

It’s not just you, I feel the same way. It seems when covering Bozo he’s all up beat but when it comes to Montana he so monotone. I noticed it also!

Bobby only likes media members that are loyal to him. Any questions that delve into sticky issues or question a perceived inadequacy are met with resistance or sarcasm. So it’s not surprising that a media member would be turned off by that. However, I think Rainey is being very professional about it. Riley is on the UM (state media) payroll so he’s not a good comparison.

Correct, but Riley is an employee of Learfeild, and approved by the University.
