UC Davis Regular Season Predictions

We’re in the home stretch now with 2 to go. This week it’s Davis, who I’m very high on. I have them 3rd in my preseason poll, and they’ll have one of the top offenses in the league. Let’s dive in!

August 31 @ CAL - L. Tim Plough goes back to Berkeley in his first game as head coach. Don’t think the Golden Bears will be all that great in the ACC this year, but they’ll be fine in this one.

September 7 vs. Texas A&M Commerce - W. Should be pretty straightforward at home.

September 14 @ Southern Utah - W. Could potentially be a tricky game as some people think the T-Birds are a sleeper, but I’m not one of those people. I think it’ll be pretty straightforward for Davis.

September 21 vs. Utah Tech - W. If you saw Utah Tech’s schedule, you’d think they’re a Big Sky team with the amount of BSC teams they’re playing. Should be an easy one for Davis at home.

September 28 vs. Idaho - W. This is the marquee game of the opening week of conference play. This is a huge game for both teams. Should be a tight one, but I like Davis at home.

October 5 @ Portland State - W. Maybe a little bit of a hangover after Idaho, but I think they’ll be fine.

October 12 vs. Cal Poly - W. Ya, this one will be over fast.

October 19 @ Eastern Washington - W. I know the red rug can be a tricky place to play at, but you gotta win this game. Close, but they pull it off.

October 26 BYE

November 2 vs. Northern Colorado - W. Tune up game before the big trip to Missoula.

November 9 @ Montana - L. Under the lights on ESPN2. Davis’ first trip to Missoula since 2018. This 3 game stretch will be huge for determining Davis playoff fate. I think they’ll put up a fight, but this will be a tough one to pull off.

November 16 vs. Montana State - W. Both teams have big rivalry games the week after. The team that doesn’t overlook their opponent will be the winner. I predicted Davis would win this game, and I’m gonna stick with the Ags. I think this is a big trap game for the cats.

November 23 @ Sacramento State - W. Dare I say the biggest Causeway Classic ever? There could be a lot on the line in this game. For Davis, it could be a potential top 4 seed if everything goes right, but for sure a top 8 seed. I like Davis as a slight favorite in this one. Super close game, but I’ll take the Ags.

I have UC Davis going 10-2. Is that generous? Perhaps, but I really like their team. Those final 3 games will be the deal breaker but as long as they get 1, they’ll be a playoff team. They get 2 and they’re probably a seed, and all 3, maybe the Big Sky champs? We’ll wrap things up with Weber next week. That’s my prediction. Thoughts???

I would expect a bad loss in their season at some point. The last couple of years both the gris and cats have performed great the week before the brawl… 22 gris vs eastern (?)… and cats last yr vs eastern. UCD could sharpen up after a Missoula loss but I think back to back weeks in tough stadiums will cause back to back losses.

If Lan Larison stays healthy they can beat anybody in the conference. Not saying WILL but CAN. Should be a fun one at Wa Griz.

They definitely have weapons on both sides of the field. We will see what kind of difference not having Hawk has on that program. A healthy Larrison will cure a lot of ills as well as an experienced QB in Hastings returning for his second full season.

After looking into their defense stats they seem to have an above average defense. I’m not sure about their depth but if they stay healthy they could be very good.

I think if they win a lot of games, they will be good. If they don’t win as many games, they won’t be as good. It’ll probably come down to points scored versus points given up per game. That’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I stand by it.

I've done some extensive analysis and determined their win total will be somewhere between 0 and 12.

After that, it's a crapshoot.

Yes, but if they stay healthy, it could be closer to 12 than 0. If everyone gets injured in the first game and they have to start the backup tuba player at QB and the TA for British Lit at RB, it could be closer to 0.

Hey now! The second chair tuba player is always better than the first chair tuba player which inherently will be better than anyone on the field. Watch the Cal Stanford game footage if you don’t believe me. The only memorabilia from that game to end up in the hall of fame is the dented tuba. What does MSU have in there? A kicking shoe from a Norwegian ski-jumper?
