Who Will it Be ?

Your right throwing 48% in 2019 for the 3 games he started at MSU, then 57% and 10 interceptions at d2, and 63% with 9 interceptions at d2 is an absolute stud! Literal Chargers websites are saying he is just a camp arm… “Bauman was just “fine” in his final year at Augustana.” Bauman will be happy if he makes a CFL team.
I'm not trying to just come at you here, but do you think that Mellott is going to get to an NFL camp as a QB or become a CFL QB? Chambers? This is a tough argument for you to hold onto successfully. And I say that as someone who genuinely has love for Tommy Mellott. I'd love for him to be a Grizzly. He is a WONDERFUL kid and a really great athlete. But he's not getting NFL invites as a QB.

Also, sometimes coaches just do a bad job of evaluating. Brad Johnson was a career backup in college, but won a Super Bowl in the NFL. I think Testaverde was a college backup, too. Not saying that is going to happen with Bauman, obviously. Just saying that college coaches can screw up. The next couple of years will tell us a lot about Vigen and co's talent evaluation.
Guarantee the chargers website does not literally say he is just a camp arm.
Do you have to lie to make friends or are you too dumb to know what words mean?

The guy made an NFL camp and you’re admitting he might make the CFL too.
Clearly he was good enough to be a BSC qb but bubz failed to recognize it and develop him. Stop throwing him under the bus and acknowledge the true problem has been MSdUi’s renowned failure to develop a qb for decades
I think he means all of the bloggers. Who are pretty much as knowledgeable as you or I about the thinking of the Chargers' coaching staff.

MSU can’t evaluate their qb’s.
If they ever get one, wake me.

Lulay was good but so was Norm Van Brocklin.
Recently Denarius McGee was what ever the one rung above mediocre is.
Matt Hermanson should be sending a fruit bowl at Christmas to whomever you guys started back then and made Matt an All-American.
Prokop has fashioned a nice career out of scoring one yard plunge TD's in the CFL where the D has to line up one yard off the ball!
Mellot is a nice guy, so was my Dad, he couldn't throw either.

Maybe, just maybe, could the quality of the receivers at the next level elevate a QB as well? Is it possible the piss poor wide receivers at MSduI were holding their third string QB's back all these years? Doom, despair and agony on thee. If it weren't for jump ball luck they'd have no luck at all.

So much hostility here these days.

Classless..............

Says a lot that the year they made the finals was the only year they had an NFL level wr there. That offensive scheme also wasn't doing any favors to the passing game.

I had one coach, not from the griz, tell me that it looked like a class A Montana HS offensive passing scheme. And he didn't say it as a compliment.

There's that point, and then there's another point that he got an NFL camp invite by passing to DII receivers. So, maybe the Bobcoaches just whiffed on this one. Also, when Bobfans say it's just because he's 6'6", well, he was the same height in Bozeman.

We are also in an era where NFL teams are caring less about height than they ever have before. Or at least, less than they have in my lifetime. If height was still what mattered, Tanner McKee out of Stanford would have been taken in the first round. This isn't 2001 anymore.

Not THE chargers website but a chargers website “Bauman is unfortunately just a camp arm. His size and athleticism is likely the biggest intrigue for him as a prospect but he’d have to beat out 2023 seventh-round pick Max Duggan if he wants to land on the team’s practice squad.”

If he was an average d2 qb how would he be a top FCS qb? Dude dealt with many injuries and never performed when he got the chance.

Yes I agree Tommy has no shot but I will say I think he is better than Chambers but his size hurts his chances. With that said he is 100% a better guy to win games. Bauman is 6’6” and has the NFL build… Tommy is maybe 6’.

Now you sound silly… the cats had an NFL receiver on their roster dude.

It's not 2001 anymore. Guys who are 5'10" have been top QB picks in recent drafts.

Also, there are a lot of guys who are 6'6" who never get brought in to an NFL camp. Obviously NFL coaches saw talent and value in bringing him in, even if it is for a tryout and eventual CFL career. My only point was that you are saying this guy has CFL talent, and obviously he has factually got a camp invite. NFL coaches are not stupid or uneducated about QB talent. If we can agree that Mellott has no chance as an NFL camp QB or in the CFL, and this guy did, then perhaps they were starting the popular guy rather than the best guy?

As you said, the current backup is a better passer and would create a more dynamic offense when he gets on the field. I'm largely agreeing with your logic, it feels like you just won't take that one extra step to admit that maybe, just maybe, the Cats coaches whiffed on a prospect.

The reason he has CFL opportunity is because his mother is Canadian so he has opportunity to get drafted or however that works.

Yes Bauman got better and clearly can pass but I think after 4 years at MSU he was not good. Reed has been at MSU for 2 or 3? And has progressed very nicely and done well in the time he has gotten. Maybe Vigen/Choate missed on this guy but I think to develop him they would’ve needed to lose many games which isn’t worth it in my eyes.

So, they failed to develop a guy with an NFL arm, but this Reed guy is totally progressing while a slot receiver is QB1? Seems very Bobcat. On-brand for sure.

Well if a qb takes you to the chipper, followed by 2 seedings I’d stick with him. Reed isn’t better by any means but he has qualities that Tommy doesn’t.

Americans can play in the CFL, man. First you said he is only getting a shot because he is 6'6". I pointed out that 5'10" QBs have been selected FIRST OVERALL in the last few years, and now he is getting a shot because he is Canadian? Man, you're reaching on this one.

And I don't disagree that they would have needed to develop him. But go back to the start of the conversation. You're shifting goalposts a lot on me here. No hate to you. You're not a dick and have strong opinions. But you're really moving goalposts mid-debate.
