Why transfers chose Montana

That was one of the best articles in a long while on the Griz. That was really great work and clearly not interviews with just basic questions.

It really highlights how winning begets more winning. Those kids all mentioned our recent history as really positive in their mind. Younger Ford being there for one of the loudest moments in WaGriz history is cool, too.

Ford highlighting that it does make a difference when Griz nation gets on socials and starts clamoring for a kid to come was noted. Kids pay attention to online chatter.

It was subtly dropped in that Hauck is pitching kids that he will be sticking around.

Loved this quote from Otlewski "Truly blessed that I have another opportunity and coaches that believe in me," he said. "I know it's not going to be handed to me. I'm not the type of person that gets stuff handed to me, just from my personal life and everything. I got a single mom. Nothing's free where I come from. Nothing's handed to me where I come from. I'm going to work may ass off to play."

"I would say a lot of stuff y'all have there is way better than the stuff they have at San Diego. Crazy difference in the weight room than San Diego State. San Diego State just got a brand new stadium, but we didn't pack the stadium like you guys. I've always wanted to play in front of a big crowd."

Ford, Otlewski and Wilson join Washington defensive lineman Jacob Mason as transfer commits since UM's spring camp ended.
Transfers who committed before camp are S Kade Cutler (Montana State) QB Logan Fife (Fresno State), DB Chrishawn Gordon (Fresno State), DT Patrick Hayden (Monmouth), OL Everett Johnson (Cal), LB Vai Kaho (San Diego State), DB Kenzel Lawler (Utah), DE Andres Lehrmann (Youngstown State), K/P Ty Morrison (College of the Canyons), RB Stevie Rocker Jr. (Arizona) and K Johan Silver (Kent State).

Man, it doesn't seem like that many...the list grew long sneaky-fast...

Can you imagine how fun it would to play LB in it? Esspecially if you have some speed? Riley Wilson. Patrick O'Connell and this kid fits that mold.
That year that O'Connell and Jace Lewis were doing their "shake and bake schtick" while coming from absolutely everywhere to ruin the QB's day seemed like they were both genuinely having the time of their lives.

I would hate to be a lineman and try to figure out where this kid, Wilson or Vai Kaho were coming from on any play. They are all taught to block an area against twisting and blitzing teams. That is easier said than done when they are already by you. The key was Gubner though. He demanded a double team which freed up guys. If Hayden can't be blocked by the center alone..watch out. This year could be lights out.

I think you nailed it. Gubner was absolutely amazing. I'm reminding myself that we don't need Hayden to be Gubner. If he is 85% of Gubner, this defense can still be hell on wheels.

And seeing Wilson putting his speed to work last year as he got the defense really figured out was truly a pleasure. He is going to be playing even faster this year after getting more comfortable.
