Idaho regular season predictions

Time for another prediction, and this time we’re looking at the Vandys. It’s been an interesting offseason for Idaho as they got crushed in the portal, and now the ongoing criminal investigation with multiple members of the Football team. Vandys fans are high on Jack Lane as their new QB, but there’s a lot of other questions that need to be answered. Let’s dive in!

August 31 @ Oregon - L. Hope the pay check is big cause the ass beating they’re gonna take in this one will be big. Oregon will likely contend for the Big 10 title and this one’s gonna make for a long day.

September 7 @ Wyoming - L. Back to back FBS opponents to open. Wyoming will have a new head coach and I don’t think they’re gonna have a very good team this year. I’m gonna say Wyoming wins a close one, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Idaho won this game.

September 14 vs. UAlbany - W. A re-match of the FCS Quarterfinals, although this one will look much different as both teams had a rough go of it in the portal. Idaho should prevail at home this time but if they don’t, they have the potential to really throw themselves behind the 8 ball early.

September 21 @ Abilene Christian - W. Definitely their easiest non conference game. This one shouldn’t be much of an issue.

September 28 @ UC Davis - W. Pretty interesting game. These 2 teams did not see each other last year. It will be a huge game for both teams but right now I think I give a slight edge to Idaho in this one. I may have a change of heart later this summer but I’ll go with the Vandys for now.

October 5 vs. Northern Arizona - W. Shouldn’t be much of an issue in this one

October 12 @ Montana State - L. The cats fell right into the Vandys trap last year as Idaho had the ball for over 40 minutes. Have the cats learned their lesson this time? I will not be surprised if Idaho wins this game but the cats are very good at home and I think the cats win a close one.

October 19 vs. Cal Poly - W. A good get right game for Idaho as things start to get easier.

October 26 vs. Eastern Washington - W. This games in the dome so it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

November 2 BYE. Damn that’s a late bye week

November 9 @ Portland State - W. Another one that shouldn’t be an issue.

November 16 vs. Weber State - W. I think Webers trash and this games at home. No issues here.

November 23 @ Idaho State - W. ISU will be improved but the Vandys mucked them out last year and I expect a similar result.

———————————

I got Idaho at 9-3. A lot of unknowns so it’s hard to say for sure. 9-3 would get them a seed and put them in pretty good position for the playoffs. That’s my prediction. Thoughts???

Great writeup, as always

What do you predict their offense looks like this year with the changes? Do you see them having wr's who can step into the big role they had in the past?

NAU is far from an automatic win. EWU and Weber will play Idaho close. UC Davis beats them if Larison is 100%. The Wyoming/Albany games may be the pivotal ones for playoff seeding.
I'm super curious about UC Davis. I don't know how they end up plaukgn vs Idaho, but they keep fielding teams that are just inches away from being REALLY good. Plough is no slouch, and coming back to his alma mater to coach there seems to have a lot of good vibes going.

My understanding is that their donor base is really growing, and on an upward trajectory. If that donor base continues to shift younger and towards sports, they may be a team that is really on the rise in the next decade.

Davis’s season will come down to the Causeway Classic. Finishing the regular season with both Montana schools and Sac State is tough. Finishing with a 3 game losing streak may leave them on the outside looking in… again…

Good write up. I see them dropping a game that everyone expects them to win and winning a game that might be a push or expected L. We will see what Ecks recruiting and development has done to improve the program without McCoy, Woods, or Hatten. They still had a ways to go in rebuilding the trenches on both sides of the ball from what I saw last year. I expect them to stop being as gimmicky and risky on offense as the talent level improves. Will that be this year? Or will they have to continue to run track meets on the field in the Kibbie dome? Could Eck be the second coming of Aaron Best?

I honestly think they will be lucky if they go 7-5 this year. With the loss of the 2 biggest playmakers on offense, they will struggle to put points on the board. Not to mention they schedule Oregon and Wyoming in the beginning which will destroy building confidence amongst the team. They have a pretty good defense, but not good enough to make up for the lack of offense they are used to producing the last 2 years.

With the portal being such a big part of recruiting these days, it much less predictable than in the past. UI played at Weber last year and they were okay. They were a good team, but WSU beat them in a close game. I would say that last year's Vandal bunch was about equal to Weber. Weber lost the bulk of it's offensive line to graduation, but returns experience in almost all other positions. UI seems to have lost a bit to the portal, but I expect they will be nearly the same as last year. With teams still picking up players from the portal, it's hard to tell who might step up this coming season. If I'm making a WAG at it now, I would say UI finishes anywhere from 3rd to 6th in the BSC.

2023 was their peak, the top of their arc.... UofIdon'tcare will slowly become a bottom dweller of the BSC.... they are welcome to prove me wrong.

4-8

7-5…but we will know week 2 if they’re any good. Even a decently played loss tells us something.

Albany will beat Idaho

Idaho lost way too many impact players to the portal. I think 7-5 is about right.

See, we can totally agree on something!

But yeah, they lost all of their firepower on offense (the fastest player on the team, the best QB they've seen in decades, and the best WR they've ever had) and big contributors on defense. They're gonna need an insane reload if they want to win the Big Sky this year. We're gonna see how good of a coach Eck is this season.

I like Eck, but he will be depleted this season. But I like Cody Hawkins much better

"The game, originally scheduled for Week 1 on Saturday, Aug. 31, will be played at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. As a result of the date change, Oregon has increased the guarantee payment to Idaho from $675,000 to $740,000, according to the copy of the amendment."

Weren't they always scheduled to play Oregon on August 31?
