MBBALL Griz had complete game, Moody a great player, and article on seniors

The Griz played very well and had a complete game with no let downs. PSU is pesky with its very good press and terrific offensive rebounding. Moody plays so smart and unselfish. Very impressive.

The Griz are strong and have some depth. They are playing well and with confidence. They clearly want to go to the NCAA's. I think they will get there.

Be sure to read the recent Missoulian article on the seniors. It's terrific.

“It’s a selfless group,” DeCuire said. “I think that they all want to be successful. Most of them are going to be professional basketball players, but they don’t let those dreams get in the way of the success of the group. I think they do a good job of celebrating each other’s successes.

“But the most important thing is they just spend a lot of time together. When you spend quality time and you get to know each other outside of basketball, it’s a lot easier to be a family on the court and in the locker room. I just think this group has done a good job of that.”

“I found myself in the beginning of my career that I got down on myself when I had a bad game,” he said. “I knew I had to get myself out of that habit. Now if I ever have a bad game, I know I got to keep going. That adversity can happen on or off the court. I think it really did prepare me to be in the real world.”

Unlike the stoic Whitney, Moody is a showman. He blows kisses to the crowd after his 3-point makes and those fans reciprocate by chanting “Moody” after the public address announcer yells “Aanen.”

It’s the type of environment Moody has searched for in his seven-year career. He began at North Dakota in his home state, where he was the state’s all-time leading scorer in high school.

He didn’t start in two seasons at UND, which was then in the Big Sky, and his appearances dropped from 30 to nine in his second year beause of an injury. He then played 55 times and started in seven games over two years at Southern Utah, another team that was in the Big Sky at the time but no longer is a member.

Moody found what he wanted at UM the past two years. For one, it was closer to family, an important aspect of his life because he has two children and a third on the way this fall.

He also found coaches that trusted him and gave him the green light as that off-ball, 3-point sharpshooter. He’s started all 58 games in which he’s played at UM over two seasons, tallying 949 points compared to 680 over his first five years. If he can reach 1,000, he’d be the third Griz to do it in two seasons, joining Anthony Johnson and Martin Breunig.

He was named All-Big Sky first team for the first time this season. He had earned All-Big Sky second-team honors and all-tournament recognition last year. For his career, he’s up to 1,629 points, 371 boards, 195 assists, 105 steals and 11 blocks across 152 games and 65 starts.

“I think I’ve grown as a man,” he said. “I’m learning how to be a better person, a better leader, a better husband. I’m able to do that with a team of young men and also a family.

“We fell in love with the area so much I think this is our home now. We would have never found this gem of a city and these gems of people if it weren’t for coming here.

It’s definitely changed the trajectory of where my life is headed. It’s been the most probably impactful two years of my entire life.”

PSU and UNC were the two teams that scared me the most. Well, and EWU. And they're ALL gone...this bodes well for ANOTHER "Brawl for it All"...just like in football.

Another nice game. The 2d half NAU runs and Griz draughts made me nervous. And the one run of about 4 or so Griz TO's in a row. I liked how the refs called the game for the most part.

I didn't see the Cats play. How have they been playing?
