Winter Conditioning

Lots of unnecessary yelling by the players. I don’t care if they can yell I just want them bigger, faster and stronger. I was trying to get a good look at the coaches. For sure saw Rosey, Hauck, Germer, Sacks

Says who? There are proven benefits to yelling during strenuous excercise. It releases adrenaline, increases blood flow, higher heart rate, stabilizes core, and gives a psychological boost. These things could allow more focused training, leading to bigger, faster, stronger athletes. This goes back a long ways and I'm sure there's plenty of literature on it if you bothered to look. Better yet, talk to Nicholson himself and hear his rationale.

Whoa buddy. Chill. You might be right so if that’s the reason I stand corrected. I googled it and a limited study has shown it to have a slight benefit so congratulations.

When I saw this picture, I immediately heard Mel Lackman telling us to do the “side-straddle-hop” for gym class in jr. high.

This bunch is much better @ it than we were.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I am a Lewis and Clark Scout, Class of 1973.

I hated the wrestling segment the most each year.

No worries, just thought you were criticizing something simply because you didn't understand it. Obviously, I believe in what they are doing for a variety of reasons based on other studies and personal experience. Btw, there is a lot more on the subject than the link you provided. International Journal of Exercise Science is a good place to start. Another thing about yelling together in a group that might not show up in the performance-based studies, among other things, I believe it builds camaraderie and creates a no judgment zone.

Maybe it brings an additional "emotional" component to the exercise?

I did 4 sets of 15 of those today as my work out warm up. Let's see some real shit.
When I was in school, we called them "jumping jacks." I think calling out reps, etc., in a group helps individuals to think as part of something bigger. Helps weld individuals into a unit. Witness the military.
