... Got one of the biathlon events on now (cross-country skiing plus shooting). Missed shots cost penalty time but, in the end, you win by going over the course in less time than anyone else. My kind of competition.
I often wonder if the guy in second is ever tempted to take a shot at the guy in first. Sure you would have to take a penalty but if your aim was good it wouldn't really matter.
"Accidents do happen."

A .22 caliber slug (I checked, and they use Long Rifle ammunition) in the fanny would sure play Hell with your skiing.

I am home sick today, watching the Olympics on TV, and without warning I suddenly found myself cheering for the Russian mixed doubles curling team. Well, half of the mixed double, anyway...

Pressure makes diamonds, one mentally tough individual
Definitely. 62 stitches tough.....
A few posts back, I said I found half-pipe not so exciting as slopestyle snowboards. That statement needs to be amended, because it really only applies to women's half-pipe. Since the athletes keep pushing the limits, I figure the women will catch up to where the men are now ... eventually. But in the meantime, the men have pushed themselves to preposterous levels: huge "air," monster distances, and insane spins and somersaults. And that was just watching the qualifying rounds. (I got a kick out of how the commentator kept reminding us of that point.) The question really becomes: How much further can they push it before it truly does become too dangerous?

didn't take long for his sexual harassment lawsuit to take the air outta that.

I don't think the lawsuit, which was more about wrongful termination and wages, and involved a former member of his band, and is now settled, will have much impact. It doesn't change my view of White. 3 golds and 4 tries, and a gold in that sport in his 30's, is very impressive. He performance in the prelims and finals were outstanding, and he has to come from behind to get the gold on his last run.

"In 2016, White was sued by a former bandmate named Lena Zawaideh for sexual harassment, wrongful termination, wage nonpayment, and other labor code violations."

"the lawsuit by a former drummer in White's rock band, Bad Things. Lena Zawaideh said White sexually harassed her and refused to pay her wages after he fired her. The lawsuit was settled in May for an undisclosed amount."

"In the lawsuit, Zawaideh said White repeatedly sexually harassed her, forced her to watch pornography and told her how to get her hair cut. The lawsuit included screengrabs of text messages allegedly sent by White asking about the haircut and suggesting she wear a provocative outfit."

[It isn't surprising to me that the leader of a band would want the band to dress and look at certain way, as they are performers. And yes, that might involve the women looking good or sexy.]

"The lawsuit also said White grabbed Zawaideh's buttocks shortly after leaving a band practice and that he once shoved a bottle of vodka into her mouth and forced her to drink from it. It also said that "White stuck his hands down his pants, approached Zawaideh, and stuck his hands in her face trying to make her smell them." The lawsuit also says White tried to kiss Zawaideh at a Halloween party."

[This was a band and people in their 20's. Partying and having fun. It wasn't some big company, a media organization, or Hollywood production company. Some drunk guy grabbed my daughter's butt outside a bar a few years ago, and she turned around and decked him. Her brother, an Army Ranger at time, had taught her how to punch quickly at close range, i.e. in close combat situations where you need to buy a second or two to get to a weapon.]

dunno, but i took a quick glance at news websites and whether it is right or wrong, saw more articles about the lawsuit than the gold medal.

personally, i'd dump a lot of the fancy new sports and bring back barrel jumping. don't think it was an olympic sport, but it was shown from time to time on abc's wide world of sports, and i always loved it.

finally, how many times do you have to tell that story about your daughter, greenie(bqm) we've all heard it more than twice.

I may tell the story every time I see reference to grabbing some girl's butt. And no, don't think "we all" have heard it more than twice, but perhaps. I know she could take care of a wimp like you in short order.

what is that supposed to mean, greenie(bqm) lots of different possibilities, with none that i can think of being very appealing. you need to work on your posting greenie, it has gone downhill lately. you can do better.

Hijacking threads "got no couth." Whatever Shaun may have done, the case was settled out of court and he apologized ... several times. Harping on that from the past, rather than his amazing performance now is just muck-raking (as usual). Is one period of bad behavior supposed to ruin a life forever? Even murderers, sometimes sentenced to "life," get out after 15-20 years.

Meanwhile, the games go on. Not sure what's on "live" right now, but we're watching our recording of the women's luge. Man, you could not pay me enough money to sit on, basically, a trash can lid and zoom down a zig-zag of ice!

See photo of the drummer in this link. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/why-isn-apos-t-anyone-031000810.html

"attorneys representing the drummer, who co-founded the band Bad Things with the Olympian in 2011, filed a verified complaint in San Diego County accusing the 29-year-old White of sexual harassment during the seven years they played music together. He is alleged to have sent her sexually explicit and graphic images of male genitals, forced her to watch sexually disturbing videos including ones that “sexualized fecal matter,” and made sexual remarks to her."

Sorry, but after she was in the band for 7 years, starting when White must have been 21 or 22 at the beginning, I just can't feel sorry for her or get too excited about this.

Ouch! (To say the least.)

In some ways it's great to watch recorded events rather than live ... you get to buzz through all the commercials. But sometimes you forget what actually happened (a good thing, usually). This stretch was when Emily Sweeney had her huge, scary crash. It was a damn somber group at the luge venue, but she insisted upon walking out on her own. (Amazing, after you saw the way she hit.) Her tweets say she is very stiff (and no doubt bruised a lot), but that x-rays showed no broken bones or other problems.
