Your Favorite Griz?

I gotta go with Chase Reynolds or Caleb Kidder. Both gave 100% while playing injured most of there careers!!! Dave DeCoite as well:) :)

Mine is a coach..not a player. A coach that started it all, and owned Montana State....going undefeated against them in every game he coached against them.

That's right my favorite Griz of all time was Fred D Smith, because without Fred there might not have been later Griz. His team in 1897 defeated that other school in the first Brawl of the Wild, 18-6. Coach Smith was only here one year, and only had the one win....but all those who came after owe it all to Fred.

Long live Coach Smith! Although I suspect he is no longer among us. Viva la Smith!

Marc Mariani hands down. I used to climb the M just to watch his kick and punt returns in games that I couldn't afford to go to back in the day. He was fun to watch, and I knew he had the "It" factor to make a difference in the NFL if he only had a chance and he did. I remember getting in a debate with an old guy from down south about his NFL potential. The guy told me that Mariani wouldn't make the NFL cuz of his small size. He sure proved him wrong, and even made the pro bowl his rookie year ! If it wouldn't have been for his broken leg he'd still be as explosive as he once was. Thanks Marc, you went from a walk on Montana native at the U of M to NFL pro bowl. Pretty sweet.

EVER? Wow...that's a tough one. There are soooo many.

If I had to pick ONE from the current team, I'd go with either Ralston or Simis. Guys who rate willing to put team above self and play whatever position the team needs them at.

Stan Renning, Mike tilleman
Mike blossomed in the NFL as he had the size. He was not that awesome as a Griz, playing on really bad teams. Came out as a junior as I recall. A player of that era who was possibly the best linebacker I ever saw up close was Wayne Harrington. Renning was a legend.

Rumbling, Stumbling Dan Moore. That pic of him leaping over that App State defense is classic. Just bowl forward and knock down what's in front of you!

Tru is the G.O.A.T. IMO

Man Tru was good but lets not forget...he got beat on that final play against App State to send us to the chipper in what was possibly the greatest game ever played in WaGriz.

Ball hit the receiver right in the hands..he just dropped it.

I've got to respectfully disagree with you here. Yes the ball was very catchable but Tru was draped all over Quick and had great coverage in very sketchy field conditions to be playing CB and mirroring an NFL draft pick WR. I strongly believe if that was Colt Anderson on Quick (my second favorite Griz) he would have been sanctified for game winning coverage. Tru is hands down the best player to ever suit up for UM in my opinion, no disrespect to other Griz legends.

I agree with where he is at as far as all time greats....

But on that single play...the App State player has the ball hit him right in the hands at the goaline before Tru touches him.
