You can't compare NV & MT to Gonzaga

Gonzaga was able to give Few a 10 year deal worth (i think) 1 million per year.

NV & MT are small state schools. Gonzaga is a private school. I don't know about MT, but NV cannot give a contract longer than (i think) 3 years and there is a salary cap. I can only assume MT has something similar. Additionally, Gonzaga made the buyout of Few's contract so expensive, it would scare almost any other school away.

I think you guys are lucky to have a quality coach with local ties. You need to keep him there as long as possible.

Unfortunately Montana can only offer 1 year contracts by State Law. That is part, and only part of the reason we lost Heathcote, Brandenburg, Morrill, Montgomery to bigger and better programs such as Michigan State, Colorado State. Stanford, Wyoming.

As for Few, given his record, if he ever decides to go to a school like Indiana, Michigan, etc, they can handle any buyout in his contract no doubt about it. Gonzaga pales in comparsion to the financial clout of those schools.

There are some people trying to put some financial incentives in place to keep guys like Krysko at UM for a while. I don't know if it will get done but at least someone is trying.

Not true. The 2005 Legislature changed the law to allow for multi-year deals.

TRUE!

The Regents have failed to act upon it even though it was on a recent agenda.

This statement: "Unfortunately Montana can only offer 1 year contracts by State Law..."

...is not true. No matter how many times it's said on this board.

OK, now we are arguing semantics. The FACT is this. Until the State Board of Regents gives multi year contracts their approval, they will NOT happen. It is that simple.

Wrong. Sorry, Griz10. State law used to limit the U-system to one-year deals. Yes, I agree the Regents must also act, but I wanted to clear up the misconceptions about state law.

The Zags may need a couple of those millions back to rebuild the new housing complex that burned the other night. They showed it on the news. Quite a fire. Sounds like it was pretty much a total loss.

GF10,

No, I won't wager on it. I'll just ask Leroy next time I see him. Thanks for the info., but I couldn't open the WordPerfect file.

Actually, SB 171 did two things:

1. It added language clarifying that university presidents may offer athletic coaches multi-year contracts.

2. It made an exception to state law restricting personal services contracts in the U-system to two-year terms (not 1-year terms).
