Don't post a whole lot anymore - time is a mortal enemy. But did want to get this rant out in cyberspace.
Having family and friends in Spokane has afforded me the opportunity to rub shoulders often with those fine folks that support the Cheney Commuter College. The last 4 years have been tough dealing with them... But when Stitt was hired, and the Champion Center announced, I started telling them that they should enjoy the next few years because the Griz were bout to rip the top off this mother again.
Let us consider the state of where we are at. We are a few years removed from Rape-gate, Coaches leaving for greener pastures, greener coaches finding pasture here and bring a whole new system in with a bunch of kids recruited to play Bobby-ball, then that coach fired about the same time he was figuring it out and getting kids for his system, a shift by administration to "clean up" the program... which resulted in loss of scholarships and a culture of "clean" trumps winning. Then an old coach to be the new coach, charged with keeping it clean —The old coach starting with one system, and switching the next year, recruiting kids for who knows which system. And finally a new direction.
As I see it, the hire of Bob is just a breath of life in to the program. Not because I am certain he is going to lead us to the promise land, but because for the first time in four years the administration has shown a desire to work toward winning again. It was an outside the box hire. There were safer options and there were nepotistic options — Our AD chose a guy, I believe, to win. To put the program back on track. Now if Bob will do it or not is YTBD, but it is encouraging that the end goal seems to be winning. Not to mention the glimpses we saw in beating the Bison, E-whos, and Bozo State.
Add the Champ Center, getting our scholarships back, recruiting guys to fit in a system and having a consistent system in place for a few years (Hopefully) and I have a good feeling about the future.
I still think we are a few years from being "back", but I expect we will see improvement over the next few years, and you never know what can happen if you make the playoffs.
Rant over.
