Wide receiver Jamaal Jones comes to UM from the University of Washington, while fullback Jamal Wilson is a transfer from Boise State.

A 6-1, 188-pounder from Spanaway, Wash., Jones saw action in three games last season and earned a letter playing for the Huskies. He served as the team captain for UW in its game against Arizona. He was a redshirt at Washington in 2011.

Jones was a first team All-South Puget Sound League at wide receiver league selection as a junior and senior at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Spanaway. He missed his senior season due to an injury. He was listed as the state of Washington's No. 11 overall recruit by rivals.com as a senior. He was also a standout basketball player earning all-league honors as a junior and sophomore.

Another new transfer reported by gogriz.com. Jamaal Jones, UW receiver.

This should help tighten up that WR corps!

I welcome this young man and wish him a great career at U of M!

Though I don't really understand the recruiting effort (if that is what it is) for these transfers.
We have a ton of good running backs, so we pick up another.
We have a ton of solid (though largely inexperienced) wide receivers, so we pick up another.
Anyone watching last year's Griz knows we need some experienced help in the secondary.
If we're seeking a drop down from UW or UCLA I'm waiting to see one who can cover a receiver.
:ugeek:

Anyone else named Jamaal want to transfer here?? Sounds like a solid transfer and will add some more depth to the receiving corps.

There has got to be more to the story.

UW was pretty hot on Jamaal Jones even last year. He was their number 11 sort of a famous number there old holders include Marcus Tuiasosopo. Not as well "healed" as first thought perhaps

I hope not.... The kid is pretty amazing.

Saw him play in high school a lot. Good athlete but I was surprised he got a PAC 12 scholarship. He'll be a great addition at this level provided he stays healthy.

Contrary to some remarks, I think we are weak at WR. This young man may help shore up the WR group. Of course, the other area with limited talent last year was the defensive backfield. Quarterback was a disaster, but we now have a top FCS level quarterback in JJ. The Griz will be a much stronger team this year.

I would use a different adjective: Unproven, outside of Henderson (whom I LOVE at WR, BTW). :thumb:

Gotta wonder, who (if anyone) is losing their scholarship to accommodate these new players? :?

Hopefully it's not JJ after finding out he needs to be under center handing off power I style!

But seriously, limiting JJ by forcing him under center to run power I limits this offense.

Keep him out in the open, and he'll dominate.

I don't think so...... Having JJ under center a few times a game opens up the possibility of making that 3rd and 1 on the oppents 7 yrd line a 1st down, rather than a typical missed field goal, like we've seen so many times in the last three years
