World series

I was watching a comedian from England a few years ago and he said...
When we have a world series...WE invite the world.

It seemed watching the game last night with the all Latin team being announced and the announcers seemed to be saying this truly is a world series with it being watched in X amount of countries....that they were trying to defend the name.

With Political correctness taking over...do you think a name change will be in the future? A super bowl type name.

Bobby Valentine is managing a club in Japan that just won the Japanese championship. In the post game revelry, he said that the championship club from Japan should play the championship club from the US for a true World Series. Now all baseball fans know that Valentine runs his mouth all the damn time but I think that we will eventually have a true world series. I mean, everything else is being globalized so why not baseball? The new "World Cup" of baseball is the first real step.

For anyone that thinks that a Japanese team couldn't compete with the majors: Most estimates are that the Japanese league sits somewhere between AAA and the majors as far as overall talent. Valentine's team just crushed their opposition in the post season and they've probably got five or six guys - including two starting pitchers - that project to All Stars at the major league level. Could they beat the White Sox? I don't know - if the games were played inside in a domed environment like Japan, maybe they could. It would certainly be entertaining to find out.

The World Cup will be an interesting tournament. The Domincan is the odds on favorite to win the baseball World Cup in '06. Look at this potential Dominican lineup:

SP: Pedro Martinez
SP: Bartolo Colon
SP: Odalis Perez
SP: Daniel Cabrera
SP: Francisco Cordero

1B: Albert Pujols
2B: Afonso Soriano
SS: Miguel Tejada
3B: Adrian Beltre
DH: David Ortiz
CA: Miguel Olivo
LF: Manny Ramirez
CF: Jose Guillen
RF: Vlad Guerrero

Bench bats:

Aramis Ramirez
Sammy Sosa

Anybody want to bet against that team? I mean, look at the top and middle of that batting order: Tejada...Pujols...Manny...Ortiz...Vlad...Soriano. Six major league all stars in a row? Talk about a murder's row.

Congrats to the White Sox. Nice to see a 68 million dollar payroll winning the World Series. Still hope my Dodgers come through in the next few years. I was listening to 670 The Score from Chicago in the car today and its is great to hear all the commotion this has caused in Chi Town. Everybody calling in with how nothing has ever happened like this and how its great that it happened before the Cubs. The Cubs are the sexy team in Chicago, the White Sox are plain winners. An interesting tidbit I heard on the program today was a caller who said that when the Red Sox won last year the last batter for the Cardinals was Renteria who wore number three. Babe Ruth was #3 so it was putting out the curse of the Bambino. Last night the last batter for the Astros was Palmero who wore #19. The Black Sox scandal was in 1919 so last night the White Sox put that curse behind them.
