Woeful Road Record

Griz have gone 1-4 in road games so far this year ... against mediocre competition (26-27). Ouch! :o

If that doesn't improve, this will be a long season.

I wouldn't classify Mississippi State or Oregon as mediocre; I might agree with you about the North Dakota.

Miss State's record looks good (7-3) ... until you see wins over N. Alabama, Detroit Mercy, Morehead State, Lamar, Richmond, and Georgia State. Those are not strong programs and I believe only one has a winning record. They lost whenever they played a strong programer: Louisville, Minnesota, and Colo State.

Oregon is 6-5, including wins against Texas Southern (pitiful SWAC), Chaminade, and Portland.

Upon reflection, saying the two are mediocre may be a bit charitable.

If I were forced to bet my house on a Miss. St. or Oregon neutral court game, I would take both over all but 50 teams in the country (and so would Vegas). I don't feel that is mediocre. KenPom has MSU at 41 and Oregon at 55.

Also, part of the Griz road woes I believe stem from the trips themselves. Missoula to Starksville to Grand Forks is a difficult long trip if you aren't flying private (which I assume they weren't). And it was 2 games in 3 days like BSC games. Not nearly the same as an Idaho/Idaho St. trip. The UNC game was somewhat similar in that I think Riley or someone may have said that they were gone the entire week of the UNC game. Oregon to Sac. St. to UNC. Both of the winnable games on those trips were the last game of the trips and both of which came down to basically making one extra play. If the UNC and ND games were the first games of each trip, I don't think its unrealistic to think they win both.

Conference is right around the corner so I guess we will see soon enough.

I always forget Idaho/Idaho St. aren’t travel partners but my point remains.

Yeah, when you're the poor relations in the BBall world, you take the OOC schedule you can get ... which certainly makes travel dicey.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the relative strengths of MSU and Oregon. I look at the W-L records and who they played, and I'm not impressed. (Luckily, since I don't bet on sports, I don't much care what the bookies say.)

FWIW: I'm perfectly satisfied (not happy, but satisfied) with the current Griz record. But the bad road record does worry me some. The team is nearly 40% thru the regular season and I would hope they were further along in their development. And perhaps they are ... they looked good against a decent (for their level) Air Force team. The good news is that the overall record for the Griz doesn't matter all that much ... as long as they win enough to get a tolerable seed in the conference tournament. Then, of course, they have to win the whole thing. Short of going undefeated, the Griz (or any Big Sky team) will never get a lot of respect from the rest of the basketball world.
