WIU at Illinois

I watched WIU play the Scats and wasn't overly impressed. Now I'm watching them play FBS Illinois, and it's WIU 14 and Illinois 24 halfway through the third. The Leathernecks certainly look better in this game than they did in Bozeman.

They do indeed!

Now 34-14 Illinois 4th qrtr. I forgot that Illinois beat Penn last week wasn't it? The only good news for us is the injuries that WIU is taking. Sad, but they still look pretty good.

Penn State beat App State in OT last week. They'll play Illinois on 9/21/18.

Illinois played Kent’s State last week.

Hard to find film on W. Ill. I'm thinking it will be the biggest test of the season so far. Especially with the weakness of our O-Line on film.

:?
They played the sCats last week. I don't think the staff will have trouble getting film.

Watching from the stands - McGuire is a good FCS QB. They do a lot of motion & there were @ least three Jet sweeps in the first drive - 75 yards - all positive plays and an easy TD. McShane is a good back & Tate & their receivers are all better than anything going on with UUni. Pursuit & tackling are going to have to be great.

WIU is significantly bigger on the fronts than Montana & the DT 99 is a bridge abutment - even B10 linemen had trouble with him. Although they sucked in the first half, Illinois kept focused on running & did fairly well, but it wasn’t primarily inside. The game is only different than the nut-puncher affair in that McGuire is a significantly better QB with better skill position folks & like the first two - it will be squarely on the defense & Sneed’s shoulders.

...tough game for the Griz ...WIU is going to give the Griz their toughest game thus far...away
game will test the young players...hoping for the best! go Griz..fight on!

WIU Qb did not do well with defensive pressure in the game against the cats.
Their little scar back scares me.

They are fast on defense, have some nice skill guys, qb is good when he has time, but their OL is terrible.

They have a big, athletic DT who, is a preseason all-american and maybe even on the Buck list. He was pretty non-existant versus the cats, so hard to know if he lives up to the hype.

Their OL is very young and inexperienced. Unlike UNI and Drake. This will be the worst OL we have faced but they are still very good. They had problems with MSU's speed and rotation of players. We will bring a lot of both those things. They don't throw deep much, they run PA a lot, roll outs, sweeps and such. I think that plays into our D. Their DL is legit and just as good as UNI probably. Our OL will have their hands full. Our WRs should be able to make some plays if we can get the ball to them. Ironically MSU was able to run on WIU and we won't have that ability but I do think our extended run game (JLM) will be in full force. PS their special teams were pretty bad vs MSU
