With Vanderbilt's advantages over Lady Griz ...

Why would anybody want to add any other incentive to Vanderbilt.

I was at the game, and just a little bit into the game, while Vanderbilt turned the ball over two or three times, and I believe Monaco hit the games first shot, The UM pep band started a chant, that, if I was a Vanderbilt player, that would give me added motivation to beat UM.

The band started chanting "OVER RATED".

It must have added motivation to Vanderbilt. They seemed to all of a sudden settle down, hit shots, and play better, both offensively and defensively.

So, band, next time, save the "OVER RATED" chant after the game, not at the beginning. Lady Griz did not need to be handicapped any further than they already were.

I mentioned this in my post as well. I think that also might be why Vandy was still shooting 3's and full press with 2 minutes left in the game and a 20 point lead - just to rub a little salt in.

Still the bank added some life and humor into a bad game - "you may or may not make this basket that you know you should make" good stuff that even had some Vandy fans snickering. The "you will not graduate from College" line was a little flat though, considering Vandy's 100% graduation rate.

I like just about all of the band's chants except for the overrated one. It gets chanted at every game immediately after the ball is tipped. When Montana played Rocky it got chanted. C'mon...that doesn't even mean anything. Actually, it comes out seeming like they are calling our team overrated. It's time to axe that one.

I could see the same thing happening next year when Stanford comes to Missoula. I'm sure they would have a similar reaction as Vandy did to the early chant. I appreciate the band's enthusiasm and wish more of the students would join in, but the cheers are supposed to help your team, not hurt them.

The "overrated" chant was started last season after our upset victory over the University of Utah. The band thought it would be funny to chant overrated after the tipoff of each game. It is not meant to demean lesser matched teams, or anger better teams, it was simply supposed to be a funny chant. I understand how fans would think it was not funny though.

I've never though it was funny and I've heard it many times at many different sporting events. Even at the High School level which is really pathetic! I even prefer the "eat Sh$t and die Grizzlies" one over that.
