Will Cherry: "Working to try to get back for my team."

I caught another Griz hoops practice Tuesday, Oct. 23.

I got a brief opportunity to talk with Montana senior point guard Will Cherry on his foot injury, Tuesday, Oct 23. Cherry was quite open regarding the time frame -- and actual healing process -- of his foot. No doubt he's eager to get back on the court for himself and his team.

great kid, will, but trying to do too much too fast to help your team is a prescription for disaster. time is the great healer, and this injury is going to take some time to heal--especially at the pace and intensity at which cherry plays. given that kovacevic is gone, i'm rooting for a redshirt year.

If he comes back this year, I hope he can play to the fullest of his abilities. If not, I would hope for him to wait until next year, too. I know that would be hard, but how awesome to have Will and Kareem as seniors and a more seasoned front court as well!? Thanks for the vid, GJ!

Thanks for posting grizzlyjournal, great interview. Hopefully he has a quick and successful rehab... the key is at 1:35 or so, when he says the key thing is that it is tricky and he can't rush it. That is the key. If he gets fully healthy, hopefully we will see him out there again, doing great things. If it's not, hopefully he recognizes it would be best for his long-term future to take the year off and play fully healthy next season. I can't imagine that would be an easy decision at all if it is one he has to make.

As of today, I was told the target date for his return is no sooner than end of Nov, or 1st week of December. They feel that week is a pretty realistic and safe target date. Could he come back sooner? Yes, he will be capable sooner. They want him as close to 100% as possible before bringing him back though. Redshirt will not be happening, barring any unforeseen obstacles.

He was supposed to get his cast off Thursday. He is still on crutches and using his scooter. He is a long ways from just weight-bearing. End of November seems optimistic to me.

I did say best case target date. Worse case as is, for conferece play.
Redshirt will only happen if recovery does not go as expected.
I doubt that will be the case.
