Why We Rest Our Starters

If you didn't watch The Hawks dismantling last night of Washington on Sunday Night Football, Seattle had a 38-7 lead with less than 7 minutes left in the game, yet Commander's head coach and former Hawks' Super Bowl winning DC Dan Quinn
left his young star QB Jayden Daniels in the game anyway and Daniels suffered a nasty injury, an arm injury--apparent dislocated elbow on his left arm, and now Daniel's and The Commander's ( 3-6) season could be basically over.

Both NBC's Chris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico questioned why Quinn left his young star QB in the game since the game was all but over.

I am glad that Bobby, Brent, Coop and Tim have been resting our starters when the game is all but over--the last thing we need is Keali'i, Eli, or Michael Wortham going down with a season-ending injury in the 3rd or 4th quarter vs. Eastern or Portand State when we're ahead by 21-28 + points late in the game !!!

Robert Griffin, III was obviously very upset and said so that Commander's Head Coach Dan Quinn left his star young QB in the game when The Commander's were down 31 points with less than 5 minutes left in the game, and upon being sacked inside the Seattle 5 yard line, Daniels suffered a gruesome appearing left-arm injury with his left elbow bent in very unnatural inward position instead of its normal and natural outward pointing position, an apparent elbow dislocation. Daniels then immediately left the game with his left arm in a black air splint. It is not known when or if he'll return this season.

That’s why I expect the next two games to be “closer” than we may want or expect. When you’re undefeated you have nothing to prove but continuing to win. I honestly don’t care the margin of victory in the next two games as long as a lot of younger players get reps and there are no major injuries.

Rotating players does several good things: helps prevent injuries, gives young players a chance to play and build depth and experience, keeps team morale at a higher level, and gives the coaching staff a good look at how players perform during real game situations.

It is encouraging to know that our starters are OK not playing even though they are warriors and want to be on the field. I understand the team morale is very high and supportive.

Totally agree. The persistence that the staff has in rotations may be frustrating at times for some fans because fans start playing the comparison game in terms of score differential etc, but we're starting to see some teams get dinged up way worse than others. The announcers made a point of this about UC Davis. I dont know the extent of Davis's injury issues, but it sounds like they've got quite a few guys out.

It was great to see some many guys in the rotation ar weber, and early! Even in the first half. Good on our staff for trusting the process, it'll serve us well down the stretch. 💪💪

Agreed. Although our secondary has suffered without Loud, they've gotten better. Bobby has gone into the depth chart to give players some time in the games. That gives them experience and also builds them up for next year. They have less of a chance of hitting the transfer portal and think that they can have more of an influence on the outcome of the game. It's not all about running up the score, but more about the program, and building it; and you don't risk players getting injured. Bobby could have easily left Kay and and Eli and others in for the Weber game, but chose to give the depth players some time. That's great for the team. That's great for the program. Eli said in the interview that he was happy to see the other players get some time. It builds unselfishness and brings a team together. That's how championships and programs are buillt; not by running up scores.
