This is a question for City...
I keep hearing from posters who are supposedly in-the-know about recruiting that the Cats are signing a much stronger class than the Griz this year. Why would any strong player want to play in Bozeman in front of 2,000 fans, and a perennial lower tier Big Sky team?
i wish mslacat would check in occasionally. he'd have a better perspective on this than i do.
but i think the cats got an outstanding class. they signed four, three high schoolers and a jaycee. one high school kid is mandrell worthy (great basketball name) out of puyuallap. i know scout has him rated higher than our prize, michael oguine, though i don't know if oguine's rating has been upgraded since he led his team to a california high school championship. i do know the griz were in on worthy, so you can figure the cats got a good one. a 6"2" guard.
their other two kids are from the midwest, sort of under-the-radar types. one, tyler hall, from rock island illinois, had offers from several mid-majors. the other, sam neumann from st. paul, is capable of putting up a lot of points in any game. the jaycee player, i dunno, you never know about a jaycee player.
better class? hard to say, since we still have two slots to fill. i love michael oguine, i'd take him over any other recruit in the big sky. and i think--as in football--montana kids always are under-rated, just because they're from montana. jared samuelson would probably be rated a lot higher if he played in oregon or washington. if he's as good as his dad--and many say he is--we got a very good player.
i like our class. i like the way decuire coaches, especially defense. if he can score a notable big in the late-signing period, i'll like this class even more.
