Who is in this week

************* Rumor Alert ************

This week there is a very short contact period (10-13th), that is sandwiched between the final 4 dead period and the signing day dead period. These four days is a really busy time to get kids onto campus. From what I hear the Griz have in today a point guard from Salt Lake Community College named Yahosh Bonner. Bonner is a 6-0 guard who is originally from Arizona. SLCC played in the national championship game this year, and have 6 or so players who will sign with D-1 schools.

I also hear point guard Reggie Guyton, Jr. from South Idaho JC will trip to Montana in the next couple weeks, unless Montana signs a JC point before then. Guyton's teammate Terry Fields, a 6-6 three star small forward was supposed to trip to Montana this week, but will now not be visiting Montana.

I think a high school kid from Washington is also visiting this week.

The Griz hope to get two commits this week that will officially sign next Wednesday.

thanks, mslacat. bonner only averaged 12 minutes a game, three points...hmmm...

He also put up big time numbers when he did get minutes.

How did CSI do this year and what are Guytons stats like? I haven't seen him play since his H.S. days in Portland.

Southern Idaho was ranked in the top 5 of the NJCCA D-1 most of the season. They dominated the Scenic West conference most of the season, were up set in the conference playoffs ...... Salt Lake Community College.

Yohosh was recruited out of high school by BYU and spent a year on a mission, then a year at Cochise JC (last year) where he started and averaged 8.5 points, and 4 assists a game. He transferred to SLCC to get a chance to be closer to home and play in a winning program. He played behind DaVell Jackson a 6-1 point guard who was just named NJCAA 1st Team All-American.

Guyton averaged 7.5 pts and 4 assits a game. Guyton may be the more well know guy, but Bonner is considered more of a sleeper. Bonner also has some jets on him.

Is Carrillo still the coach at Cochise? Well if he backed up a AA he sounds like a good sleeper. Although I would wonder since he is Mormon kid if he won't want to stay and play for Utah State, Weber, SU, and maybe go D2 at Dixie. Do you know who else is recruiting him?

#20 Yahosh Bonner
“Yahosh is probably as physically strong of a point guard as there is in junior college. He is a great young man. We will look to him to really be a consistent stabilizing force for our team.” ~ Coach Parrish
Yahosh comes to Salt Lake after serving a two-year mission to Tampa, Fla. and spending one season of play at Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona. Highly recruited out of high school by the likes of Brigham Young University and Southern Utah, Yahosh averaged 8.4 points per game at Cochise and looks to perform even better this year.

"Highly recruited out of high school"? Since when is an offer from SUU and a walk-on offer from BYU highly recruited? They're a little liberal with their critique if 1 legit "offer" equals "highly recruited."

OK I wondered the same thing, so here is some articles from his senior year.
With the November early signing period here, the list of Arizona's top senior players still available has gotten very thin. Such players as Mountain View's Yahosh Bonner, Valley Christian's Tim Kruge, Sunnyslope's Jon Simon, and Desert Vista's Clinton Polk are still on the board. Here's a look at our top ten high school seniors still available for colleges.

1) Yahosh Bonner 6'0" Mesa Mountain View HS
Bonner is the top senior point guard remainning on the board. An explosively quick athlete with an NFL defensive back's body, Bonner has the strongest body of any player still remainning. One of the top points in Cedar City, Utah, a year ago, Bonner was the Most Valuable Player in Arizona's East Valley Region last year as a junior. Still hearing from UTEP, Northern Arizona, Utah Valley State College, Cal Poly, Youngstown State, and Colorado State.

.........

Arizona Preps #1 rated senior point guard in the 2003 class is Mesa Mountain View High School's Yahosh Bonner. Bonner moved to the state of Arizona in August 2001 from the state of Utah, where he was also regarded as the top junior point guard prospect in the state. Bonner turned in an impressive junior year last season, where he earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Fiesta Region, as well as All-State honors by the Arizona Republic.

Now that the summer recruiting campaign is complete, I spoke with Bonner Wednesday about his current recruitment, and he informed that he is currently hearing from Northern Arizona, Utah Valley State College, Cal Poly, Youngstown State, UTEP, and Colorado State. Bonner told me that he has received offers thus far from Northern Arizona and Cal Poly.

Bonner advised me that he would consider signing early if he found a school that he really liked, but, at this point in time, he is currently considering waiting late to see what colleges present themselves. He also beleived that another strong year while playing for Mesa Mountain View Head Coach Gary Ernst, regarded as one of the top high school coaches in Arizona state history, could help with his recruitment. As the state's most physical and athletic point guard in the 2003 class, Bonner should impress many schools late with a very good senior campaign.

Bonner scored an 880 on his SAT and has a 2.7 GPA. He said that he may consider taking the SAT again to improve his score.

Ken Carrillo is a Former SUU asst. that at one time was the head coach at Mesa Mountain View. His younger brother is the head coach at Cochise. So this would explain his recruitment by SUU and the kid ending up at Cochise after his mission. Carrillo is no longer at SUU and he was an assistant at NAU before SUU so that might explain the offer from NAU. BYU for obvious reasons recruits Mormon kids really hard whether they are good enough for a scholly or walk-on spot. :twocents:

Any new news on the kid out of Yakima(sorry forgetting his name right now :drinking: )?? Is he still going to visit? I think he's really what we need..... an athletic off guard to compliment McGillis on the perimiter..... as well as an Athletic big guy who can finish strong......but if your athletic and 6'10" you usually don't play in the BSC.....

You had three players in this week. 2 JC and a highschooler. They were all in the 6-0 to 6-5 range. I think one was a high schooler out of Washington, one was a JC point mentioned in another post, and I think but am not sure the third was Johnson. To put things as delicately as I can, though, I hear Johnson's stock is dropping a little, less to do with Basketball, but with other baggage. He is a good student and pretty well respected kid.

Mslacat- Is the high school kid out of Washington the one from Ranier Beach with the ridiculously hard to spell name that you were previously telling us about???

Nyandigisi Moikobu?

That's it.The kid has been one of my favorites since early in the recruiting process. Ridiculous athleticism and production at one of the premier basketball programs in Washington. I believe Ranier Beach has put at least 4 kids in the NBA in the last 5+ years.

Can't wait to see what this day brings us!!!

You and me both. I think if they land Moikobu it would be a huge get for the Griz (from what I've read).

I hope we hear some news on recruits real soon.
