this is a letter to the editor in today's Missoulian. as frustrating as not being able to see the game is, college football is a business too. Whats everyone's feelings on this?

I'm on the side that believes Mr. Schrieb is a moron.

First, the GSA has nothing to do with television contracts. Second, Bozeman and Billings were not watching the game on local television. And third, do you think Mr. S could have found a local establishment in Hamilton showing the game?

Some people just like to bitch. Some poeple are idiots. Mr. S is fortunate enough to be both.

I am not well informed as to the media up there, but according a close friend in SC, near Myrtle Beach, the university administration there is setting up free viewing for the students and any one else who cares to show up at their foot outlets and Student rec buildings on Saturday with food being supplied to the students. That is how you build student support. UM seems to be working against its far flung alumni and ignores, as best it can, any promotion of its football and basketball teams..But, maybe it is a Southern thing.

These were exactly my thoughts. He had options and didn't use them. Probably the same type if fan that wouldn't watch if the Griz had a poor season. Keep watching that cooking show Mr shreib....

I like the idea of a watch party. If fact, I think the UMAA hosted nearly 200 of those countrywide this year.

In any event, though I don't see its relevance to this letter to the editor. The Griz/cat game was available on television. Any cable/satellite companies offer Root in their packages.

I can't read the letter, but I distinctly remember a similar complaint letter LAST year, also from Hamilton, regarding the same issue....wonder if it's the same guy?

He wants to see for free with his antenna what everyone else pays for. He is confused I think.

I think you missed the point...They think enough of their students and supporters to make this "historic" game available to them as a promotion of the university. That is how they managed to be where they are as quickly as they have. Not bad for an 11 year program that has to compete with 8 other FCS level schools in South Carolina...Now, if only they offered Maurice's bbq, or any other from the Orangeburg area, it would be worth flying there to see the game.

Quick someone tell him um is throwing an outdoor party for the game its only 25 bucks to get it. If he is from Hamilton... spend the 25 bucks and go to the game. You know how cheap that is? You can't do shit for 25 bucks. 50 might get you a decent dinner. But besides that come have some fun, its Montana. 50 bucks gets you and your best friend a 4 hour good time.

Typical. Here is a guy who takes shots at a part of the Athletic Department. Not only does he get the name wrong (it is the Grizzly Scholarship Association), but chooses an entity that has absolutely NOTHING to do with TV or any other media. He could have made a simple call to UM, and quickly discovered that the media is now a Big Sky Conference deal for most of the regular season, and an NCAA thing for the playoffs.

Hope he enjoyed the Tennessee game. Sounds about like a typical SEC fan.

I am not sure who I think the bigger idiot is, Mr. Schrieb for writing such a piece of zero-fact garbage, or the Missoulian Editor, for choosing to print it in today's paper.
Go Griz!

I believe UM has set up a viewing party also....it is called the game

Yep. If you live within reasonable driving distance but don't have the stones to stick it out for a few hours, shut yer yap about TV coverage.

Totally agree, there is a watch party in Missoula inside the best FCS stadium in the country. And now it costs only $20 to get in which is $9 cheaper than ESPN's Game Plan package for the day. And if you're bitching about having to pay for the game on TV, I'm assuming that means you would be free to go to the game that day. I'm sorry, but Griz' fans are the most spoiled fan base in the FCS and it's NOT EVEN CLOSE. And yes, at times, that last statement includes me as I'm not immune to bitching about things either.
