What's up with Strait?

I think Martin is as good or better than Stauds of getting the ball into the post.

His numbers don't support it, and if you were to ask Tinks, I am certain he would confirm it. In fact, I am pretty sure Tinks has said as much.

I don't know how you measure for sure who is better at getting the ball to the post, my gut feeling is Grizbacker is correct - I should clarify, I don't know if Stuads is better than Martin at getting the ball to the post, but I think he is more likely to do it, while Martin is more likely to shoot.

Looking at stats, Martin has shot the ball 95 times, of which 70 have been 3 balls - that seems extremely high at 74% 3 pointers, but he also has 32 assists.

Stauds has shot the ball 87 times, 50 of them 3 pointers (57%), and has 30 assists. Of course assists don't really tell for sure the ball was fed to the posts, but it shows moving the ball to an open shooter who made a basket. It looks pretty close between the 2 of them, but Martin is definitely more of a gunner.

Regarding Criswell, the thing that always impressed me the most about him wasn't his shooting, but his rebounding - he was so tough at getting inside and stealing a rebound, and had a great nose for the ball. It seems like the Griz got a lot of 2nd chance points from Criswell's hustle in the paint.

It would take a while, but fairly easy to prove. All one has to do is go through the game threads and see who got credit for an assist on Strait's baskets. Anyone care to wager?

I am suprised that the Griz are 14.5 favs tonight at home.
They should be Favs the next few home games...lets hope

I've only seen the Griz play once in person this year (at Bozeman) and I wasn't too impressed with Martin's play. It probably isn't too fair to generalized based on one game, but he was trying to do everything and wasn't getting his teammates involved. As a result, he was throwing up some pretty wild shots at times. I know he's saved the Griz's bacon at times when he's been hot, but he usually seems to be looking for the shot instead of an open man. Still, as I said, there are times I've appreciated his desire to carry the team on his shoulders. It's like being a coach and watching a player shoot from too far out: "No, no, no ... YES!"

Martin certainly didn't have a stellar game in Bozone that is for sure, but he has played well of late.

Martin has more assists in a lot less minutes........if you are going by stats........plus he is shooting a better percentage from 3 than stads, but what does any of that matter, becuase he continually rides the pine.

Fortunately for Staudacher he is filling a void at 3. Unfortunately for Martin, his height limits him in filling those minutes. Both are good players. Myself, I love watching Martin play, and love his tenacity. This year his 3 ball is falling at a good rate. With Rundles being so down this year, CET not having any offensive game, I feel Martin should have more minutes this year. I certainly think Staudacher should be getting the minutes too.

The truth is when you run no offense, and team discipline breaks
down everyone tries to shoot the ball. I would like to see a percentage of shots taken for now vs 2yrs ago for 3balls vs in the paint. I would bet the Griz scored more often off the O vs hucking
up a 3 in desperation.
In addition one should look at the defensive end of the floor. Criswell and Matthews could stop people on defense.
As for Strait, he is doubled teamed more than anyone the team.
As for range he has shot 2 3's this year. Both went in.

Martin has 42 assists, to Staud's 37. Martin has played one less game.

Martin leads the team in assist to turnover ratio.

Martin is second on the team in scoring, and second in free throw percentage on 35-42 shooting. Staud's is 6-6 in freethrows.

Among the non-post players, Martin is first in FG and 3-pt. percentages. He is above Hasquet in both.

Martin is second in rebounds (35) to 39 for Rundles, of the non-post players.

Martin is second in steals.

Martin is averaging 26 minutes. Stauds is at 32.

As for range he has shot 2 3's this year. Both went in.

Strait only shot and made 1 three pointer this year in the CSU game. Not enough to say much about his range. He was lucky. Based on previous years, he was lucky.

Strait went 0 - 4 last year. 2 - 3 the previous year, and 1 - 8 his freshman year. His career 3 point shooting stats are: 4 - 16. He is better shooting within a short distance from the basket and staying away from the 3 point line.
