What teams should drop a division?

Ahhh yes, there it is! I was waiting for the "better than Cheney" comment!! However, I'm not at all saying EWU should move up. I like FCS level because I like having a chance of winning the National Title. And just for the record, Cheney isn't that bad at all. You're 20 minutes from Washington's second biggest city... aka 4x's the size of Missoula.

Missoula is better than many FBS towns, no doubt. BUT the town itself is not the entire basis of a college age kids decision. Is a recruit going to pick Montana over Oklahoma, Nebraska, or Ole Miss!?!? Absolutely not!! I do believe that U of M would be more successful than Idaho and could eventually compete for a Mountain West or WAC title in a few years, but most of those teams suck. Why would you only want that for your team?

a) I've been to Cheney, more times than I care to admit. The comment was made in jest (mostly). 8-)
b) Being 20 minutes from Spokomton is like being 20 minutes from East L.A. It ain't nothing to brag about...if population were everything, Tucson wouldn't be the shithole that IT is...there's nothing worse than a town with an inferiority complex, and Spokomton has that locked DOWN.
c) We already have recruits who've picked Missoula over Moscow, Pullman, San Diego, Colorado Springs, etc....it CAN--and does--happen, with more regularity than you or others might care to admit. Maybe it's a quality of life issue, maybe it's a playing time issue, maybe its a better offer issue (full vs partial, partial vs walkon, etc)...who knows, but it does happen. IF a student had the opportunity to come to Missoula AND be playing at the highest level, it would happen even more. To think otherwise is just foolish.

Why is it, AZ, that you sound soooo much smarter on eGriz than you do on other message boards?

Spread your brain power, and common sense around a little bit...please?!!? ;)

I have to admit SUU is Behind and needs to catch up facility wise and in other areas, but why do you guys seriously believe the griz shouldn't drop down too??? Do you really believe that the griz are thought of highly on a national level??? What are y'all sipping on up there E&J brandy or mad dog 20/20  year in year out who are the griz beating outside the Big sky??? I'm out

I sure hope the other SUU fans aren't assholes like you... I'll assume that you're not the norm & you just have poor manners... especially considering you're still not even an official member of the Big Sky yet.

Of course money plays a role, but attendance was something that was being made out to be the deciding factor, IMO. Plus I thought the conversation was about which teams should drop a division, not move up..

If Montana wants to move up, then great, more power to them. I think it would be stupid to give up something good. They'd NEVER, EVER win a National Championship at the FBS level and they'd rarely win conference titles. Just because you have extra scholarships to give out, doesn't mean you're going to get the best players to attend U of M. Kids aren't going to choose Missoula, MT over other schools. The same thing happened to Idaho and now look at them.

I dont think if Montana moved up that they would end up being just like Idaho, Montana has better facilities hands down, they have a larger more dedicated fanbase. I think they could be pretty competetive in the Mtn West, but thier National Title dreams would cease to exist. With this 4 team playoff for the BCS, they are not going to be inviting Mtn West teams over B12, B10, P12 or SEC teams, And those teams are gonna start avoiding scheduling the lower teams so they can get a better strength of schedules, this "playoff" sure doesnt help the teams not in the Big 12, Big 10, SEC or Pac 12

The winners of those 4 conferences will be chosen for the playoffs too..

I was saying that this new "playoff" wasnt going to help teams that were not in the Power 4 conferences :thumb:

Ah, ok, I see now I misunderstood what you said, I read it as teams from those conferences will "ALSO" get a chance to be chosen, but I now see it as "Yeah and those conferences champions will be the 4 playoff teams"

Gotcha, my bad :thumb:

So, this thread has gone from teams that should drop down (might as well add my two cents here: entire Sun Belt, what is left of the WAC, MAC, most of the MW and C-USA, which teams in the MW could win the Big Sky? It should be a debate on which FCS conference can move to the 2nd tier, entire Big Sky??), to which city's in the Big Sky are most appealing and show me your attendance data? Love it.

And some of the usual stuff, the ongoing debate between Big Sky Bears and the rest of the Big Sky's fan base as to whether or not UNCO matters (for the record, I love beating the Bears, so stay around), Kemajic bitching and moaning about records, competition, beer sales, and whether or not he is or isn't Spanky (You two seem different enough for me though). But my personal favorite is SUU's lone fan talking smack. Kinda reminds me of the Alamo. You know you can't win, but you fight on anyway. Ah, gotta love an underdog.

As for the best Big Sky city...Hmmm, that is hard. All of the cities offer something, I mean, in Cheney you can always find a garbage can with a fire in it, Greeley smells like bile, bowel, and death, Flagstaff you can get great payote, Ogden depending on where you are you can either be mugged or baptized, Portland is full of great munchy food, Missoula is for hunters, fly fishing, and perverts, Bozeman is a great place to get beat up if you play for the same team and represent the same school, not to mention a great place to hide a corruptable NGO, Sac...well, everything is good there except the university (gotta love wine county), Grand Fork...well, the movie was made there, but entitled Fargo, and finally Cedar City. Being from Utah, after Provo, its the village I want to get out of quickest. See the Big Sky has a hell of a lot to offer. Oh...just for kicks... MOSCOW IDAHO...at least they have a dome to house their many Football accolades and white supremacist groups. Good thing there are still plenty of racists to use the dome, sure as hell doesn't get used for much else.

Fullerton just missed a key opportunity....College of Idaho joined the Frontier Conference. They would have added to the conference growing strength with schools like Northern Colorado, Southern Utah and soon to be Ft. Lewis and Western State.

Let' see the Griz move up? Um no, that's been proven since you get your buttocks banged every time you play a FBS team (only lately though because you like to schedule DII's). EWU should drop down because you like playing lower level teams as history indicates. I love the fact that EWU spanked you so hard and in your face the last play of the game when they whipped you at home in 2010 en route to the championship. Yes, you won last year, but we spotted you 7 on an INT and the refs gave you another 7 - (nobody cares anyway). Your program is a black mark on the BSC as of late and yet you all stay positive. I admire that. You have all been through a lot and you deserve better. Actually, you guys should move up to FBS, It would be fun to watch your spankings if you get on TV against North Texas or whatever chum conference you would be placed in. Pac 12?

Tix are on sale now for UM to play EWU. Just join our EAA and give money so we can build a slightly bigger podunk stadium

God, I hope someone bans me off this forsaken site. This forum needs trolls just to keep it honest. everybody is living in Griz la la land.

I love the fact that EWU has won but 4 of the last 19 meetings with Montana.

Oh win. A thread were we make fun of other universities instead of them laughing at us for this Engstrom lead fiasco.

hmm.. ok...

1 - SUU
2 - NCU
3 - PSU
4 - ISU (they actually do have more support in general than PSU which is still pathetic TBH and earns them the coveted 4th spot)
5 - Well there really is no 5 IMO in the big sky. Weebs is weak in Football (in fan support weak, usually mediocre to ok in play) but they do good in BBall so its a even call and tbh BB makes more $$$ for most teams in general for their athletic programs (good teams/tourney $). EWU sucks at BBAll but with a few additions to the FBall program and a NC lately its not remotely fair to call them out.

Well... NAU... well its arizona damn they need to get it together. Maybe they should be in front of PSU tbh I just kinda think they could get more support and stay up if they tried harder.

I see more CA refugees than easterners when I'm in town and that's much worse.
