What is so impressive about Stitt?

You think that is the main recruiting hurdle for the FB players at Mines? Pssh! That is a piece of buttcrack lint compared to this:

Students
4,293 enrolled
73% male / 27% female

Also, there is an M on the hill above campus there too. Just sayin'.

Honestly, I am good with Stitt or Pease. Even the guy at Pueblo doesn't scare me away. If we are willing to give Bobby and Pease second chances, then Wristen deserves one too. I just feel as a program we need some fresh air and a fresh start. I have no problem with them keeping some current staff in place, but I think a new perspective would help the program.
What did Pease ever do that even remotely compares to Wristen's blemish?

Nothing. Not even close. I am not a Wristen apologist. Appearantly, Pease was an arrogant jock when he was here. It rubbed some people here the wrong way. I only had one exposure to Pease in Missoula. It was at a party at his house after the cat/griz game in 1986. We rolled the cats. I was friends with his wife(then his girlfriend) and she introduced us. He was laid back, cool, and went out of his way to welcome us to his house and party. My point is that people now are not the same people they were 15 to 20 years ago. I was somewhat of an arrogant jerk when I first came to school. Thought I was a pretty big fish. Turns out I came from a small pond. I changed a lot over the past 25 plus years.

So you don't think BH as changed since he has been gone ? Maybe a little humbled ? Maybe misses Montana ? Wants to come back to WaGriz . Made his money (don't blame him for that) Has regrets ? Everyone would like a second chance at something and if you say different I will call you a liar . Don't be mad cause its the truth !

Colorado Mines dwells in a relative obscurity that makes UNC look like a media magnet. That said, Stitt's credentials stand on their own - Metallurgy and Hydraulic engineering are equally obscure, and (1 there aren't a ton of folks entering the field and (2 CSM's entrance requirements are very rigid. That really does impact the old recruiting pool.

First off I'm not advocating one way or another on Stitt. Just going to point out why what he's done at Colorado School of Mines is actually pretty impressive.

While his record may not be the most impressive (same with his playoff record) you have to look at how he turned that program from a bottom dweller (and sometimes mediocre) to a very good program even with the very strict academic requirements for getting in to that school.

Playoff appearances in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years): 0
Above .500 seasons in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years): 4 (1975, 1976, 1979, 1991)

The 5 years before Stitt? A combined record of 13-41.

Hell, look at the last year before Stitt was hired. They were 1-9 with 9 straight losses to finish the season. The combined score of those 9 straight losses? 418-54

Since Stitt was hired they've been to the playoffs 3 times (and to two "Bowls" it looks like) and had 13 out of 15 years above .500 He basically turned that program around from awful to pretty damn good and did so with a very exciting style of offense & a major recruiting hurdle in the form of academic requirements.

Again, not advocating one way or another, just wanted to point out what is impressive.
Stitt sounds impressive, but so does this quote from Wikipedia: "their [Montana] success made them the most successful program in all college football in the 2000s (119 wins)". Hauck could only take credit for 7 of those years, but that kind of success can't be overlooked. I sure wouldn't mind getting back to those years.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind getting back to those years either. Very impressive.

Like I said I wasn't posting the above to advocate for or against Stitt, just pointing out what I thought was fairly impressive about him as a candidate (not necessarily making him the best candidate). Honestly the recruiting aspect of things (as was pointed out elsewhere in this thread) worries me about Stitt. Can he recruit talent at the FCS level? We know a couple of the other candidates can & already have loads of experience at this level and higher levels.
