Positive- I may have been blinded by the individual abilities of last year's linebackers, but I was impressed w this year's group. Exceptional athleticism from them.

Negative- injuries, and the lateness with which the offense shifted philosophy.

Hey, we gotta kill time somehow... Looking at you kh

The linebackers were great; most surprising was Kose being able to play all year. Van Ackeren and Gamboa were stellar containing the edges. Led by these three our D should be solid again next year in spite of the DL losses.

But overall most surprising was the lack of development of the OL. Even with the losses of Schmaing and Poole, I thought that by season's end that Gragg would have them at least representative of Griz OLs. Not the case; our Achilles heel start to finish, which handicapped JJ's ability to have the kind of year we had hoped. Even EWU, not a D powerhouse, exposed them after a full year under their belt. Has to be a concern for next year.

Positives- our LBs are freaking studs again, I was worried at first...they turned out to be great! Our secondary play was also much better.

Negatives-our OCs have not progressed what so ever...the two coach system is freaking mental...needs to go.
Also I cant believe Ngyuen is still allowed on the field during a punt return??????

Positives - We have found our kicking game in Sullivan. Whenever he lined up to kick, I never was worried and pretty much expected him to make most of his kicks. Also LBs, like others have said.

Negatives: special teams... Lame.

Positives..............emergence of Jamal Jones as a dangerous receiver. Finding a reliable
kicker in Sullivan, and the linebackers.
Negatives............Losing Henderson with a horrible infection(wish him well), losing both
of our offensive tackles, and bad offensive coordination.

Regarding Nguyen- during punt returns I was Freud's wet dream. I'd break out in sweats and yell peter's name randomly. Jon really wasn't that bad...just not what we expect from our return game.

Speeding of special teams, I'm very proud of the griz tradition of excellence in this area. Hell, we have two pro bowlers currently in the nfl. But I'm talking kickers before carp. I think of Jefferson heidelberger and Leander seagers, not just mm. I guess my bar on special teams isreally high because I and we have witnessed it's impact first hand.

1) Delaney's retirement.
2) JJ's great play with all the WR and OL injuries/issues.
3) The extent of the beat down against the scats.
4) Second loss to EWU--thought the Griz would win.
5) Play of LBs.

I am not sure that I was really surprised by anything, other than a slow start by JJ, but that can be attributed to the line and playing banged up almost all season. Pretty much abandoning the run game the last 3 games of the season was surprising to me after what we had seen all year. We found a kicker, and the linebacker play was better than I expected. The secondary actually had a pretty good year from what I was expecting them to do, I thought it might be like 2012 all over again.

Positives: Definitely the defense as previously stated. LBs were great, but I was impressed with the CB play compared to previous years. They werent stellar, but very rarely were they considered a liability. Improved secondary play helped round out the solid defense. ALso very happy with how Saylor played at TE, became a real threat. Having Sullivan win the kicking job was a nice surprise as well.

Negatives: OL has been beat to death and that probably has alot of do with my choice, the WR play. Take out Jones and Van who were proven players and who really stood out? In a year where we lost Henderson, Walcott, Haynes (for most of the year) and Nac to injuries, this wouldve been a year for someone to really step up. Burke and Jan played OK, but neither really broke out. Rogers was no where to be found when you wouldve thought this was his perfect opportunity. Not trying to be too negative as all the mentioned players were young and can still become stars.

Ya I guess you're right, I think I only saw him put 7-10 balls on the ground this year....BH would have burned his scholly in front of his face!

The turnaround at the end of the year. They played like the Keystone Cops all year, then a trip to Cedar City and POOF! a new team and attitude. Never thought it was possible.
