All you have to do is look at the thread here when the cats played them. You’ll see that WIU is terrible. Can’t block. Can’t rush the passer. Can’t stop a one man team. QB is awful. Running back is ok but to small to be a real threat. Special teams sucks. Lost to a terrible Cats team. Way way worse than northern Iowa.

Griz should roll easily in this one I’d assume...

lol I can tell you’re setting this up for a lot of smack talk in the event of a Western Illinois win

nah, you know me...not much of a smack talker. i'll leave that to the wise ones here.

but I won't lie...I do find it funny. two weeks ago you would have thought Western Illinois was an NAIA team reading the game thread on this board.

my luck WIU will beat the griz and we'll hear weeks of cat idiots saying how much better MSU is than UM simply because of this game. And just when the dust begins to settle, Northern Iowa will smack down South Dakota State and we'll be back to square one...

Elton John signing: "It's the ciiirrrcclllleeee of message board liiiifffeeee!"

I like our linebackers against that sweep WIU runs. I like our secondary in coverage against their receiving corps. I like our passing game against their defense. I like their defense against our running game. I like the potential of our special teams to determine the outcome of this one!

I don't like that this is their home opener and emotions will be sky high for them. I don't like our run blocking and am still not sold on the overall play of our offensive line. I don't like the fact that to date we appear only capable of playing one half of football per game.

Given the lack of a running game and the fact that WIU is certainly a capable defense I think Sneed will have to try to complete some passes to running backs over the middle, more use of the TE's and hope that the running backs do break a few runs through the middle. Keep the penalties down and I think we have a real chance to win this game!

Go Griz! Maul Em!

I’m thinking the defense can contain the wiu offense and hold them to 21 and hoping that playmakers like JLM,Bingham, and a breakout game for Lee out of the backfield can score on their defense. Sneed will be a target for sure so short passes and using the middle of the field will be a must to move the chains. This will be a tight contest for sure. Shaw and Sims will need to make their presence known.
Get Er Done Montana.....
Go Griz!

I've actually watched part of both WIU games, and they have looked good at times and like bumbling fools at other times, but my main take away is: The 2 teams they've played have been picked 8th (MSU in the Big Sky) and 14th (Illinois in the Big Ten) in their leagues. Those were 2 of their most-winnable games .It only gets worse for WIU-Montana,NDSU,N. Iowa, S Dakota, Ill St.

Good stuff and I agree, I will take our linebackers and edge rush against their sweeps all day long. Our Oline needs to step it up, Bigly. it sounds like there will only be 5,000 or so there so I'm not too concerned with home field.

...always like coaching match ups...
...don't know anything about their coach...
...but got to like our chances with coach hauck...

... 8-) ...

oooffff.....can you say 0-7?

Total Defense - I’m giving to Montana.

The Griz give up 3.84 yds per play. The Leathernecks give up 4.84 yards per play.

Quick hit... No defense has faced as many plays this year as the Griz defense in 2 games - 165.

No run game to keep the clock running/shorten the game will do that to ya. This issue will start to wear them down as season progresses unless things change up front on offense

Imagine how many fewer plays they’d have faced against UNI if they’d have recovered a couple of those fumbles. I’ve never seen that many balls recovered by offensive linemen before.
