Welcome back Jimmy Wilson

Does anyone really believe a taunt from some jackwipe in the stands is going to bother a guy who sat in a freaking jail for a couple years? FFS people, get real.

Things could be far closer to normal!
If this hadn't come about we'd have nothing to worry about except the big news that
The Bobcats Ashole coach stole a mediore JC transfer QB from Idaho State? ;)

The biggest difference between then and now is the coaching staff. There are mentors, teachers, and leaders all over the place on our sideline currently. Then, there were only football coaches with a few of the latter. As long as Jimmy is willing to be mentored, taught, and led he is in good hands! Can't say the same for the previous staff. Welcome back Jimmy! Make the most of it!

I agree. It will piss Jimmy off and he'll take the next guy he tackles head off.

And we're running the zone blitz with our returners plus Tonio Celotto (305 lbs, 4.75 40) and Jimmy Wilson? That doesn't even seem fair.

Scratch Celloto, he won't be a Griz

I'm wondering how much say Amanda's dad was given in this decision. Only 1 (maybe 2?) of the current coaches were around when Jimmy was a player, and he's only on the team for 1 year after sitting the past 2 or 3 out.

I think it's the right move by the University, but I'm curious how much say the head coach actually had.

If they go to the tape there will be no doubts.

Wonder why they didn't recruit CB's when we seemed thin there? They were waiting on the NCAA.

Kudus to UM and its administration, for supporting Wilson and welcoming him back. This shows some courage on their part, because it would have been easy to duck this situation. The specific support of Dennison and O'Day in the press release was interesting.
It's a rare event, but I could not agree more; in fact, you simply beat me to the punch. I've not had or expressed a lot of respect for GD's or O'Day's willingness to stick their neck out and take a chance, but that is exactly what they've done here and I applaud them. No one will root stonger for JW than I; I love the way he plays and sincerely hope he has the maturity to make this work to his advantage. He was a tremendous hitter as a youngster; now he should be stronger; hopefully he's able to regain his speed after the long layoff.

Exactly; igniting the chip on his shoulder will not be a wise thing to do.

I'm not totally against this but I'm wondering if all the hoopla surrounding this will be a distraction to the team and worth it?

That being said, he will be under an electron microscope so he has to be extra squeaky clean. If the kid runs a stop sign it will be headline news.

Good luck Jimmy, you will need it.

That's too bad. I was curious if he'd stick after Micheal Gray moved on.

I'm surprised. Jimmy does deserve a second chance, but I'm surprised our program is the one giving it to him. He was a problem while he was in Missoula the first time, at least when he went downtown. Honestly, I was happy to see him leave Missoula because of all the trouble he caused while he was here. However, I believe in second chances and hope that this whole ordeal has humbled him. If he is as any good as he was, our secondary just got much much better.

I believe in second chances too. It was ruled self defense. I just hope that he hasn't lost any speed or stregnth with his three years off because he was very good and we could use him.

Has this been confirmed? I've seen speculation on Celloto but nothing concrete.

As for Jimmy Wilson, welcome home. I hope you make the most of this opportunity.

Wilson was never arrested or charged with anything in Missoula, according to the Missoulian. While perhaps not an angel, Wilson was not a "problem" in Missoula, either in general or downtown. Scores of UM athletes over the years have had much bigger issues in Missoula including problems with the law. This BS coming from unsubstantiated rumors and anonymous posters on the Internet (including some with particular axes to grind) needs to stop. Wilson was generally like by the coaches and those in the athletic dept and was known to have a terrific work ethic. That's why UM supported him in his petition to the ncaa and is welcoming him back.

Celotto is still listed under the "New Signees" list on MontanaGrizzlies.com...

What makes people think he won't be a Griz this fall?

I have been waiting all day to get home and post on this. I can only read egriz from work. I think everyone has pretty well said it all. I am surprised the anti JW crowd has kept reserved for the most part, but know a few are sitting back for him to mess up, and a few others will have their say. I am surprised alpha has not posted his outlook on this, both good and bad. Then again, maybe whatever he has to say will be lessened with Hauck out of the picture on this now.

Speaking of Hauck, as this has played out the way it has, and a new coach willing to let him comeback, maybe the situation called for handling it the way Hauck did at that time. I would be interested in a more candid statement from Pflu on his outlook. I am guessing he seen this very similar to how Hauck did, and likely got a lot of feedback from those close to the program, former coaches, and former players.

I feel this is the right decision at the current time. However, the decision is made easier without taking as much heat with Hauck being gone. As a fan, I have no doubts the University, O'day, Dennison, etc have never put their necks out more than on this decision. Dennison is retiring, nonetheless one false move from JW could tarnish Dennison badly. As for O'day, has there ever been an AD at Montana to through more controversial issues/subjects, with tough decisions to make. O'day very well could be risking his career on this.

As for JW, he has either changed his life for the better from all he has been though, or like anyone can revert to old ways and give into his vices. Jimmy, most of GRIZNATION welcome you back with open arms. We will be pulling for you as hard as anyone. My hope is your story ends up being positive for yourself, your family, and Montana. The great stories of recent past are Mike Chavez, JD Quinn, AJ and SNJ, and Tuff Harris (being a native American.) My hope is Jimmy's story turns out to be the best of them all. If that turns out to be the case, and if a book or tv show comes out about this, please do what is right and give back to charities or the University.

I hope when you graduate, you will be the biggest advocate of GRIZ athletics and U of M. Jimmy, you are now in a spotlight beyond any spotlight ever at this university. Take this opportunity and run with it, let it take you to the best life will have to offer you. Welcome back Jimmy and family.

As for on the field, we should have the best CB tandem in the FCS. 2 Cb's with potential NFL talent, not to mention an intimidating hard hitting CB that will bring fear to WR's again. Maybe some of Wilson's hitting will become contagious for all the defense.

OK...so here's the question nobody is asking: It's been five years since he had a uniform on. Is he still athletic enough to play at the FCS level? If so, I hope the coaching staff is on the stick with a stern go-and-get-in-shape plan. Otherwise, I wish him well in his second coming as a GRIZ.

He has been listed there since signing day, alot could have happened in the meantime. I don't think he has informed UM of his intentions yet.
